Maya 3D Animation Downloadable Version on LHS and Screenshots of Project on RHS
For this assignment, we had to complete an independent project on communication and technology related things. I specifically challenged myself to create a short 3D animation using Autodesk Maya. The focus was on modeling, animating, and applying principles of motion to bring a character to life. The goal was to design a creative, action-based movement sequence involving a jump.
Description:
In this 3D animation, Neoglobin—a mysterious superhero-like character—jumps from his starting point on the ground and lands dramatically on the top of a nearby building. The animation captures a smooth arc, impact physics, and the dramatic vibe of a cityscape leap.
Final project is above on the LHS.
Description:
I followed the Engineering Design Process to create this project, from brainstorming the motion to animating the final leap in Maya. Here's how it all came together:
I asked myself: What kind of jump would be dramatic and visually exciting? I wanted Neoglobin to leap to a high point—something heroic, so I picked a rooftop.
I visualized the jump sequence in my head and referenced superhero landing scenes to get a sense of the movement, weight, and timing.
I sketched out a basic storyboard showing Neoglobin at his initial position, mid-air, and landing on the rooftop. I also decided on camera angles and scene layout.

Using Autodesk Maya:
I modeled the basic environment including the ground and the building.
Animated Neoglobin using keyframes to get the arc of the jump right.
Added camera movement and adjusted timing using the graph editor.

I previewed the animation multiple times, adjusting jump timing, fixing clipping issues, and making the landing feel more impactful. I also polished the camera angles to keep the viewer focused on the action.
Are you happy with how it turned out?
Yeah, I’m satisfied with how smooth the jump looks and how clean the arc ended up. It actually feels like something out of a superhero trailer.
Any technical challenges?
Definitely. Getting the jump to look realistic was tricky—especially nailing the landing without it looking like he was floating or crashing. The graph editor saved my life there. I also had to redo some keyframes because the motion looked robotic at first.
What would you do the same/differently?
Same: Planning out the movement first.
Different: I’d add more background detail and maybe some particles or lighting effects to make the jump feel even more cinematic.
