As a teacher, am I permitted to borrow library books?
Yes. Email me your book requests/book suggestions or fill out the Google Form on the previous page. With freshly washed/sanitized hands I'll check the books out to you and place them on the staff pick up table. I will notify you when they are available. Once these books are in your hands they should be handled ONLY by you.
As a teacher, am I permitted to browse the library shelves and borrow books for read-alouds?
No. Only the Library Technician will be handling the books on the shelf.
As a teacher, am I permitted to borrow books for my students?
Yes. Please note, however, that a book must be handled exclusively by one student at a time. Only after a 3-day quarantine can a book be transferred to another student. Example: on Monday student Liam is assigned a selection of books in a Ziplock bag for his exclusive use. On Thursday Liam places those books in a quarantine bin within the classroom. Once the books have quarantined for three (3) days, they can be distributed for another student's exclusive use. Repeat this process until the books are ready to return to the school library.
What is the protocol for returning books?
Feel free to email/call me for book pick-up. Otherwise, drop them in the black bin corrosponding to the day you are returning the books. The books will then be placed in quarantine for three (3) days before they can be borrowed again.
As a student, am I permitted to browse the library shelves?
No. The library is currently closed to students. I miss seeing all you in the library but hopefully we will be able to open again soon.
As a student, am I permitted to request a library book?
Yes. Search the catalogue on the previous page and use the Google request form also on that page. Books will be included in the bin of library books delivered to your classroom. Any book that you borrow will have to stay in the classroom and be handled ONLY by you. You can always email me with questions or comments about the books you want or read (megan.venner@ocdsb.ca).
How can I access the library catalogue?
The catalogue is a website. Click HERE for Queen Elizabeth and HERE for South March. Links are also on the previous page. Enter your search terms (eg. title, author) in the search box.
I have more questions!
Questions are good and always welcome. Drop by or email me. I am at each school 50% of the time. I am at Queen Elizabeth on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings and at South March on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday afternoons.
