The Modern Languages Association Style is used by English, The Arts, and other Humanities like Philosophy.
MLA Style cites the author and page number in the body of the essay, like this (Smith, p. 192). The sources are then listed on the last page alphabetically on the Works Cited page.

The American Psychiatric Association Style is used by Science and Social Sciences.
APA Style is similar to MLA in that the citation is in parentheses at the end of a sentence. The difference is that they emphasise the date of publication, like this (J. Smith, 2012, p.192). The sources are then listed on the last page alphabetically on the Works Cited page.

The Chicago Manual of Style is used by History classes.
The Chicago style is different from APA and MLA. It uses a footnote system that doesn't interrupt the text with paranthese and provides the source at the bottom of the page, like this1
