Awards

THE CHARGER AWARD


This is the  Athletic Letter award and is a prestigious award presented to graduating students in recognition of athletic participation, cooperation and achievement while at Canterbury.


Criteria:

1. A student must obtain 36 points to qualify for this award. 

3. The Charger award will be awarded to the student in the student's graduating year. 

4. Students must apply for the award by submitting a resume of athletic participation while at Canterbury. Resumes are sent to the Physical Education department.


POINT DISTRIBUTION


A)  Team Sports

3 Points:                     Member of Inter-school Team (includes Team Manager, Timer, Scorer, Statistician)

1 Additional Point:   Member of a team that finishes 1st in Divisional NCSSAA competition.

2 Additional Points: Member of a team that wins NCSSAA Championship.

4 Additional Points: Member of a team that wins OFSSAA Championship.


B)  Individual Sports

3 Points:                        Enter a NCSSAA competition

1 Additional Point:     Finishes 1st in Divisional NCSSAA competition.

2 Additional Points:   Wins a NCSSAA championship in an event.

3 additional Points:    Wins a Ontario East Regional Championship.

4 additional Points: Wins Bronze, Silver or Gold at OFSAA


C)  Support (Sport League Activities)

1  Point: Officiate an activity; organize an activity; be a statistician for an activity. 

3 Points: Contributing member of the C.A.A (Canterbury Athletic Association)

3 Points:  Student Coach


JUNIOR MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Awarded to a Junior male student who has displayed excellence in school sports during the current year.


 JUNIOR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Awarded to a Junior female student who has displayed excellence in school sports during the current year.



SENIOR MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Awarded to a Senior male student who has displayed excellence in school sports during the current year.


 SENIOR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Awarded to a Senior female student who has displayed excellence in school sports during the current year.


DENIS LAFLEUR AWARD


This award is a memorial award name in memory of former Canterbury student Denis Lafleur.  The Denis Lafleur award is presented to a senior student who embodies many of the traits that were characteristic of Denis which include determination, desire and school spirit.


GERDA MULDER VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP AWARD


This award is in regognition of long-time Canterbury athletic volunteer Gerda Mulder.  The Gerda Mulder award is presented to a student who volunteers their time to help others students participate more actively in healthy, active activities. 


 VICE PRINCIPAL AWARD


Awarded to a possible 2 graduating students who have upheld the values of athletics at Canterbury which include school spirit, sportsmanship and fair play while also maintaining excellent academic grades.
