GRADE 9-10

The science course in Grade 9 will be destreamed for fall 2022 and will have the course code SNC1W. The Grade 10 curriculum will be offered in two course types: academic and applied, until it is destreamed in 2023-2024.

The course types are defined as follows: Academic courses develop students’ knowledge and skills through the study of theory and abstract problems. Applied courses focus on the essential concepts of a subject, and develop students’ knowledge and skills through practical applications and concrete examples. 

Science Students who successfully complete the course in Grade 9 may proceed to either the academic or the applied course in Grade 10. 

GRADE 11-12

Four types of courses are offered in the Grade 11 and 12 science program: university preparation, university/college preparation, college preparation, and workplace preparation courses. 

The course types offered in Grades 11 and 12 are defined as follows: University preparation courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the entrance requirements for university programs. College preparation courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the requirements for entrance to most college programs or for admission to specific apprenticeship or other training programs. An Open course is also available in Environmental Science, which can be taken in Grade 11 or 12.
