AP Exams

Students who have completed the additional studies in each area will be given the opportunity to write the AP Examinations in May.  Fees for the exams are set by the school and will be communicated in October.  Students who take an AP exam can choose to have their results sent to their prospective universities to be considered for the possibility of earned elective credits, or earned equivalent credits (depending on university policy). Students who take these extra-curricular exams must also complete the final assessment task(s) for their JMSS courses as set out by their teachers.

More information on this will be given to students who decide to challenge the exams.

For more information on university acceptance go the websites of your prospective schools and search for AP in the Registrar's information.

AP EXAMS SPRING 2024

AP exams for the 2024 season will be:

The dates for the exams in the subjects offered at McCrae are:

Chemistry Monday, May 6 12:00 pm

English Literature and Composition Wednesday, May 8 8:00 am

Computer Science A Wednesday, May 8 12:00 pm

Calculus AB Monday, May 13 8:00 am

Note:  the dates and times are not flexible. They are set by AP and are synchronous worldwide.  There are no alternative exam dates hosted at John McCrae. If you miss your exam, even for a justified reason, there is no option to write on another day.

Taking an exam requires being absent from your regular classes. You will be responsible for the work that you miss in class and will need to plan ahead with your teacher.  Please consider carefully whether being absent from school is a good idea for you.

AP Exam schedule on the College Board site. (note: "Late-Testing Dates" are not an option at JMSS)

EXAM REGISTRATION DEADLINE: TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2024.

EXAM REGISTRATION IS IN FEBRUARY!

Exam registration takes place in February.   JMSS only runs one registration period; there will be no orders placed after the due date

Exams are $160.00 each. Please contact the office if you need assistance.

If you order an exam and don't write it,  AP charges a $55.00 cancellation charge for each exam regardless of the reason for cancellation.

Please carefully consider whether taking the exam is beneficial to you.

Why are deadline and calendar dates and options different on the AP website than at JMSS?

AP is an American product and is largely designed to work with the enrollment and calendar typical of high schools in the United States. The scale of AP is dramatically larger in the US - there are entire school boards that have adopted AP as the curriculum, and where students' final exams are the AP exams. JMSS does not have the infrastructure or timelines that can support the options available to students in those AP schools.  We are only able to run one registration session (February) and one exam session (first two weeks of May). "Late-testing date" exams are not possible.

EXAMS FOR COURSES NOT OFFERED AT JMSS

We are only able to order and host exams for AP subjects that JMSS offers (Chemistry, Calculus AB, Computer Science A, English Literature). If you are interested in challenging an exam in another AP subject, you will need to find a private test center.

AP EXAM SCHEDULE

The AP exam schedule is set by The College Board. These exams are written by millions of students around the world, so there is no flexibility in the date and time, and we are unable to host AP's "late testing" exams at John McCrae (see FAQ page).  Please consider your known and potential commitments in May very carefully before registering for an exam. Think about your school work, part-time jobs, sports tournaments, and music recitals - May is a very busy month for many students!
