Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
We will return to our work in the "Making A Difference" section shortly. First, however, we will set a few things up for the course as we embark on a unique year of learning both physically and outside of class.
In addition to this website (AMES), the VLE site for this course (located in the Virtual Learning Environment on the OCDSB Student Portal) will be the virtual platform for our class this year (see link and instructions below).
Your main point of contact for the course is the physical classroom. On days that you are learning outside of the classroom, useful information will be posted on this VLE site. It is where you should start your day when you are working outside of the classroom. This will also be where you will share work and join Google Meets.
When working outside of the classroom, your first step should be to check in the "Daily Communications for Online Learners" section. Information in this "Daily Communications" section will also be archived in the "Useful Instructions by Day" section over to the right for ease of reference later.
The VLE site is also where you will submit your assignments (in the Dropbox). We will go over how to link the VLE site to your Google Drive if you have not already done so.

Log in using your OCDSB Gmail (GEM) Login credentials
Click on Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
Log-in there as directed
Under "My Courses," look for "CHV2O-Civics and Citizenship-McCabe"
(for easy access, pin it to the top of your list using the three dots in the right-hand corner of the icon).
Open it up!
Learning Log
Metacognition essentially means "thinking about how you think." The Learning Log is a tool that will help you do this. It also provides you with a starting point each day when you come into class.
The first item for your Learning Portfolio will be your Learning Log.
This will be a document you work on daily as the first task in class and if working outside of class.
If you are working outside of class today, have a look at this document and save a copy [open it, file, make a copy, rename as First Name_Last Name_Learning Log] in your Google Drive (it would be a good idea to create a folder on your Google Drive called Civics where you can keep and access all of your ongoing and completed work).
A more detailed explanation of the Learning Log requirements will be provided in the physical class.
