Since I was the child I have a had a passion for animals; particularly horses and dogs. I began horseback riding lessons at age 5 and I owned my own horse at age 11. By age 13, I was riding competitively. This is important to understand, because it is from my training with horses that separates my skills from other dog trainers. I understand that each dog has a different temperament and unique needs similar to horses. Some dogs learn quickly while others need more time.
With my love for dogs, animated personality, and courage, I immersed myself in dog training. I began with my certification in Positive dog training and had an opportunity to train for 2 years. During this time, I learned that some dogs need additional training beyond the positive method. I then completed the Certification in Corrective Dog Training, which included Kennel Training and Dog Assessment. I practiced my profession for 2 years at a Board and Train Boot Camp where Corrective Training was used. In 2018, I completed additional training which included defensive work with dogs and training aggressive dogs. Lastly, in 2019 I received my Canine Good Citizen Credential.
Pip Squeak is my partner and the face of OC Dog Obedience. Pip is a two year old Belgian Malinois. When I adopted her, she was approximately 4 months old and tiny for her breed. Her legs were scraped up, scarred and she was as skinny as a rail. I was told that her injuries were the result of her charging through a barbed wire fence to get a ball and I believe it, since she loves chasing balls.
Pip had no training when I adopted her. She was not house trained, did not know the sit, heel, place, leave it, or come when called commands. She was a clean slate. After a few months of consistent training Pip had come a long way.
Now, Pip is officially my side kick. She works with me nearly every day and is excited to join in for demonstrations and group classes. She enjoys meeting my clients and their dogs and is always happy to assist me when needed.
During her evenings and days off, her favorite activity is fetching balls. She is fast, and can run approximately 26 mph when retrieving a ball. Pip also loves hanging out with her best friend, Tug Boat a Catahoula Leopard Dog. She is a family dog that loves being close to her loved ones and often falls asleep at our feet when resting.
The administrative side of OC Dog Obedience is primarily taken care of by Kathy. She has a corporate background but a passion for dogs so she fits in well. Kathy trained her first dog Tasha, a German Shepard when she was 18 years old. The training she received was in Corrective Training with lots of Positive reinforcement. Like me, she had equestrian experience as a child.
She does get away from the office to meet the pups and the clients, so you may see her at Group Class from time to time. Her passion includes seeing happy pups and pup parents successfully communicating as they master the training.
