A Stage Manager's Kit is a box, bag, or any other carrier (anything from a large paper bag to a tackle box) where an SM can store any equipment that might be necessary in the process of rehearsals, during productions, or in emergencies. Generally, an SM kit will start small, and you shouldn't worry about having everything during your first show. If there's any equipment you need that can't be borrowed from the theater department, you can ask Eric or Joe. Some ideas for equipment include:
Spike Tape
Gaffe Tape
Electrical Tape
Tie Line
Tape Measure (can be found in shop-- helps in placing setpieces from scale model)
Extension Cord
Screwdriver
Multitool
Chalk Line
Batteries
Screws
Thumbtacks
Chalk
Architect’s Ruler (can be found in shop-- used for measuring scale drawings)
Safety Pins
Scissors
Pencils
Highlighters
Erasers
Post-its (all sizes)
Paper Clips
Binder Clips
Rubber Bands
Shoelaces
Hair Ties
Hairpins
Straight Pins
Buttons (generic white shirt buttons are good)
Emergency Sewing Kit
Tissues
Sanitary Pads/Tampons
Benadryl
Excedrin
Antiseptic Wipes
Bandaids
Hand Sanitizer
Face Masks
Disposable gloves
Phone Charger (MicroUSB and Lightning)
Cass and Alex's Pro Tip: The most important items to have are pencils, highlighters, band-aids, (though there are first aid kits in the theater) tissues, and hair ties. Other essential items, like spike, gaffe tape, and other tools, can be borrowed from the department. We both love making notes on post-its during rehearsal if there's something small to take care of that doesn't go in the report, and having a spare charger on hand is always useful too.
