Hermit crabs need a larger shell when they get too big for their old one, just like when you outgrow a pair of shoes! They don't MAKE their shells, they have to find one so they can be protected. All animals need protection and shelter or a home.

Hermit crabs are VERY picky when choosing their shell. It has to fit just right and protect the crab. Like the crab in A House for a Hermit Crab, it has to be decorated too!
1. Design and Build a house for a hermit crab our of any materials (craft and recycled) you have at home. It has to:
Be made of materials that will protect the crab
Be decorated in your own style, be creative!
2. Take a photo of your model and ask your parents to send it to my email address: rdorio@obenschools.org
With parent permission, I will post your designs on this page!
