Netherlands brings Mobile Planetarium to schools in Namibia

The Netherlands Research School for Astronomy (NOVA) will travel from 27 March to 3 April 2019 with the Mobile Planetarium through Namibia to visit schools in remote areas. The project is part of Radboud University's and University of Namibia’s (UNAM) outreach plans for the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT) that will be constructed at the Gamsberg summit in Namibia as part of the Event Horizon Telescope.

Celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in Puerto Rico

To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science” on February 11, 2019 the IAU100-Puerto Rico had a social media campaign (Twitter and Facebook) entitled “¿Quién es es niña? Who’s that girl?” A group of 35 women scientists was selected (25 in astronomy and 10 scientists in other fields) to highlight their academic preparation and research.

Celebrating IAU100 in Nicaragua

On November 15, the IAU100 National Contact from Nicaragua, Emilio Zher and Asafile - Asociación de Astrónomos Aficionados de León, hosted a very special Moon-Mars conjunction observation. Children and adults had the chance to observe the conjunction through two of the group's telescopes while the group highlighted the IAU100 celebrations and what they could expect for 2019.

Celebrating IAU100 in Japan

Even though the IAU100 anniversary is in 2019, celebrations are already taking place worldwide! Mitaka Open House Day 2018 is a special public event hosted by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and other facilities on campus. This year, this annual open house was held on October 26 and 27, 2018 and introduced the IAU 100 years celebrations to the local community.
