Online Learning

Hello, online scholars! In an effort to protect our educational community from the spread of COVID-19, Oakwood ISD is excited to provide a portal for students to receive their work and continue at home learning. This site is meant to provide required assignments and fun activities for all grades. Teachers will be providing work for each grade level so please use the navigation bar at the top of the page to go to the appropriate classroom to receive information.

Parents. please monitor your scholar to ensure they are receiving, completing and returning all required work. If you do have any problems or questions with the assigned work, please contact your teacher through their email address. The following drop down boxes will give you pertinent information.

Ways To Turn in Assignments!

Students can turn in completed work in two ways. 1.) Scan or take a picture of the assignment and email it to the teacher(s). 2.) Bring a paper copy of the completed assignment and put it in the appropriate slot of the turn in box which can be found in front of the cafeteria.

Grading Policy- Elementary

Elementary Grades: Kindergarten - 6th grade

In order for Oakwood Elementary to calculate grades for the spring semester with emergency orders due to COVID-19 concerns:

● Assignments in the gradebook will be frozen as of March 6, 2020

● Beginning 5th –Six week starting March 16, 2020, we will shift to the new grading system: (P) Pass, (F) Fail, (I) Incomplete.

PASS (P)

The student showcases progress toward accomplishing the content specific daily activities. Student submits:

1. A demonstration of learning to the teacher according to activity specifications.

2. Student is making progress toward content understanding. Minor errors in thinking or misunderstanding of some elements may exist, but they do not impact overall understanding of the learning target.

AND

Students will submit a demonstration of learning to the teacher according to activity specifications and the student exhibits mastery of content and skills.

Fail (F)

No progress toward accomplishing the learning provided in content specific daily activities. Student turns in:

1. Incomplete work

2. Student made no effort to complete work, after several contacts from the teacher.

3. Students' work does not demonstrate learning according to activity specifications.

4. The student has errors in thinking, misunderstanding of key concepts, or enough work is not completed for the teacher to measure student understanding.

INCOMPLETE (I)

Student did not pick up packet

or student did not login to start an online assignment,

or student did not complete and turn in any assignments for each week of closure.

or the student was not in the district due to other family members taking care of them.

Additionally, students receiving special education services will have progress in their IEP goals and tracked in eSPED.

In an effort to be fair and consistent all distance learning, grades will be formative and identified as PASS, or FAIL, INCOMPLETE.

Grading Policy- High School

High School- Grades (7-12)


Students not making progress, not completing academic packets or opting to not participate in packet completion or online learning, will be eligible for summer school.

Last day for collecting grades will be May 21, 2020.

Assignments/Assessment Supports:

Due to the unique circumstances with COVID-19, each of our teachers will follow these guidelines to support students that are missing assignments or need additional support.

1. All students will have multiple days for submitting assigned work due to the virtual learning being new to teachers and students.

2. Students will be allowed to complete virtual work or a paper packet version of the lesson.

3. Teachers will document three attempts with students that are NOT actively completing lessons or making progress before assigning a failure grade. Incomplete work will be monitored and collected.

4. Students in special programs indicating difficulty or are academically struggling will have special education and interventionist call and assist with Mrs. Tritz.

5. Teachers will need to contact Ms. Olive if a senior student is not completing their work in a timely fashion.

Parent/Student Information:

1. All students have the option of working online or receiving a paper packet.

2. Drop off packets at the cafeteria in the drop off box provided at parent’s convenience, 24-hours a day.

3. Students and parents are asked to communicate with the teachers about any academic packets or lessons. Any student missing a lesson, can contact the teacher for help or an overview of the lesson.

4. Parents are asked to encourage students to meet teacher’s timelines and guidelines for lessons.

5. Students with a grade of Incomplete (I) will have adequate time based on teacher timeline and support.

6. Each situation with illness, family situations, and or technology issues need to be communicated with the teacher, so a plan of action can be implemented to support each student.

7. Students in need of a wellness contact can be referred to the counselor. See Ms. Olive’s page for the link to valuable information.

8. Senior ranks and GPA was addressed via Board Policy resolution for the 2019-2020 school year on Monday March 30, 2020. The board adopted the policy to calculate class rank at the end of the 4th-Six weeks.
