Leigh Academy Oaks- Principal's Bulletin
12th September 2025
12th September 2025
Dear Parents & Carers,
It has been a pleasure to welcome everyone back for the start of the new academic year. Pupils have returned from the summer break with great enthusiasm and the atmosphere around school has been calm, positive, and purposeful – a wonderful start to 2025/26. This has been made all the more positive after our wonderful redecoration work that happened over the summer break. Further photos can be seen HERE.
A special welcome goes to our new staff members – Miss Hawkins, Miss Griffin, Miss Carrington, Miss Beehan and Mrs Wilson – who have all settled into life at Oaks brilliantly and are already making a fantastic contribution to our academy community.
We are also especially proud of our new Reception pupils, who have started their journey with us with such confidence and joy. They have adapted beautifully to their new routines and, in many ways, it feels as though they have always been a part of Oaks.
As the year begins, I would like to remind families of the importance of naming all belongings clearly. This ensures that items can be quickly returned if misplaced. Please also remember that pupils only need to bring the essentials to school: a coat, a small bag (ideally a book bag), a water bottle and a packed lunch if required. Locker spaces are limited in size, and large or oversized bags do not fit. When pupils cannot store everything properly, items can become misplaced, which we want to avoid.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us ensure a smooth and organised start to the year. I look forward to all the opportunities and successes this academic year will bring.
You should also have received your child's class newsletter via email, which outlines their Central Idea (the statement that their learning is focused around) and the Lines of Inquiry which they will follow this term.
Best wishes,
Mr L Coulson
At Leigh Academy Oaks, we take great pride in the appearance of our pupils and expect all members of our academy to adhere to our uniform standards.
You can view our uniform expectations HERE. Please ensure that all uniform is named and checked regularly.
We appreciate that parking around the academy is limited and it can be difficult to find a space. However, please do not park; on double yellow lines, on the junctions, over dropped kerbs or the yellow zig-zag markings near our gates. Parking in the areas creates dangerous crossing conditions for our pupils, their families and our wider community.
Please check your MCaS app to view communication regarding swimming for Years 6.
We are proud to work in partnership with parents to encourage the children to understand what healthy eating means and how it can be achieved through academy meals and packed lunches. We ask that parents support the academy to help pupils establish good eating habits, by providing a ‘balanced’ and ‘nutritious’ packed lunch. Pupils must have water in their water bottles. When packing fruit in lunchboxes or for morning snacks, please remember to cut smaller, rounder fruits such as grapes and tomatoes, into quarters to reduce the risk of choking.
You can view the lunch options and order your child's meal via MCAS app. If your child has an appointment and are not in for the morning register, you must ensure that you order their lunch via the app.
Parents and carers are asked NOT to use their mobile phone whilst on the academy site. Members of staff will politely request you to end calls on the academy site. The use of mobile phones on site also extends to taking photographs and videos.
Please remind your child to park their bike or scooter carefully to maximise space. We know the shed is right beside the entrance gate, and this area can get congested quickly so please move along as soon as possible to allow the flow of families in and out.
As the colder and wetter weather draws nearer, you may wish to send your child into the academy wearing the above mentioned items. We kindly ask that they are labelled with your child's name so if they become lost, they can be returned to the correct owner.
After school clubs for children in years 1 to 6 have started and will run until Thursday 12th December. As places for clubs are limited, please ensure your child wants to attend the club they are signed up for using the My Child At School app.
Make sure you follow us on Facebook to keep informed with updates and photos about what's happening during the school week.
