We have continued our learning about the many string instruments which can be found around the world, and this week, we learned about the Kora.
A kora is string instrument used extensively in West Africa. It has 21-strings which are played by plucking with the fingers, and combines features of the lute and a harp. The kora is just one of the instruments used by the Mande people in West Africa – found in Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Senegal and the Gambia.
In our assembly on Wednesday, we celebrated the lives of Maya Angelou, Miriam Makeba and Rosa Parks. We discussed how they used Learner Profile Attributes such as being a risk taker, being caring and being principled in order to try and make the world a better place. We reflected on whether we can use those same Learner Profile Attributes to makes our classes a better place.
I left the children with the thought that even if they don't have the power to change the world, they certainly do have the power to change someone's day and challenged them to make someone's day a better and happier event through their actions.
