String Orchestra, Grades 4 - 8
String Orchestra, Grades 4 - 8
Class overview
The string orchestra program in the Oakland Public Schools strives to develop and challenge each student to reach their full musical potential through dynamic and enriching lessons and performances. Our program functions as a pull-out elective where students meet for small group lessons and a full rehearsal once a week.
The orchestra features violin, viola, and cello. Students may elect to start their orchestra experience in 4th grade and continue through their 8th grade year. Anyone is eligible and encouraged to join the orchestra program, regardless of musical background. A primary goal of the orchestra is to reach all students and help them discover their gifts and talents.
The Oakland Public Schools greatly value our arts programs, and encourage all students to participate. The arts are an important part of a balanced education, and we greatly appreciate your continued support!
About me
Mr. Creegan grew up in Oakland, New Jersey and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance & Music Education at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. He has a passion for sharing music with young students through orchestra and guitar ensembles.
Mr. Creegan's goal as a teacher is to provide each student with the appropriate challenges needed to help them realize their strengths and weaknesses so they may discover and grow into the best version of themselves. Accomplishing this goal means that students no longer need to rely on guidance to experience music in authentic ways.
Mission Statement
My mission is to always be a resource for students. Music has tremendous power to bring people together and I hope to use music to help all students feel heard and valued. I strive to provide each student with the appropriate challenges suitable for them so that they can experience success with each step.
