Class Overview
The elementary band program in the Oakland Public Schools offers all 5th grade students an opportunity to study a band instrument in a small group setting. The concert band includes Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Percussion. The goal for the band program is to provide students with a solid foundation in music performance, technique, music theory knowledge, while fostering a love for music and teamwork. Our program functions as a pull-out elective where students meet for small group lessons and a full rehearsal once a week. All elementary band students will have a combined concert performance at the end of the year at Valley Middle School.
I look forward to welcoming your child to the band program and appreciate your support.
Thank you!
