Graduate Students

Olivia Sowa

Ph.D. student (Sept 2023 - present)

Olivia graduated from Michigan State with a degree in biology and is now continuing her education at Oakland University as a doctoral student in the Wagner lab. She has an interest in lake metabolism and mixing dynamics as well as microorganism community structure. When not in the lab, she can be found exploring the outdoors or spending time with her cat Jane.

Ryan Andrews

MS student (Sept 2023 - present)

Ryan recently graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  He is continuing his education as a M.S student in Dr. Tiegs and Wagner. Ryan's research is related to decomposition and carbon cycling within lakes, rivers and streams.

Hailee Mersino

MS student (Jan 2024 - present)

Haillee graduated from Oakland University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. She is continuing her education as M.S. student focusing on physiology and stoichiometry of phytoplankton and zooplankton populations.

Undergraduate  Students

Lilli Lesperance Solomonson

Lilli is an undergraduate student majoring in Biology at Oakland University. For the 2024 summer, she is participating in the Student Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) examining how zooplankton populations change temporally in a local lake. This fall, Lilli will be working on her Honors Thesis in the fall. Lilli is interested in ecology, and loves being outside and near the water.

Alumni

Tessa Wallace

Graduated BS Environmental Science 2024

2023-2024

Tessa was in the Student Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) for the summer of 2023 exploring the relationships between nitrogen:phosphorus supply with different nitrogen forms. She is continuing to work in the Wagner lab helping out with cyanobacteria experiments. She is interested in lake ecology and plans to finish her undergraduate degree and continue on to achieve a Master’s degree and a career in ecology.
