Dr. Toulabi, PEEC Lab Director and PI
About the PEEC Lab:
Power Electronics and Energy Conversion (PEEC) Lab at Oakland University focuses on the cutting-edge multiphysics design optimization techniques, development, advanced manufacturing, and testing of rare-earth-free electric machines, aiming to contribute to more sustainable transportation electrification in North America. The research conducted in this laboratory, in collaboration with potential automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier-1 suppliers utilizes machine learning-based design and manufacturing techniques, and innovative control methods to enhance the efficiency and performance of motor drive systems for electric vehicles (EVs), including e-boats, e-bikes, and passenger vehicles.
About the Director and Principal Investigator:
The PEEC Lab director and principal investigator (PI), Dr. Toulabi, received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 2016, in electrical engineering. He is currently a faculty member at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Oakland University, Rochester, MI, USA and prior to that he was a faculty member at the University of Windsor, ON, Canada (2020-2024), an electrified powertrain lead engineer at Stellantis, formerly called Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US LLC, Auburn Hills, MI, USA (2019-2020) and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada (2016-2019). His research interests include design, analysis, modeling, control and testing of electric machines and power electronics for transportation electrification. Dr. Toulabi is the senior member of IEEE, senior editor of the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, the outstanding associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification and associate editor of the IEEE Power Engineering Letters. He is a registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario, Canada and active organizing committee member of IEEE conferences worldwide.
