We’re always looking out for talented and motivated students to join our team. Students in my lab use diverse techniques to address scientific questions, including lab and field experiments, immunological assays, parasite staining, microscopy, image analysis, and mathematical modeling. Many projects are team efforts, so willingness and ability to work collaboratively is essential.
Prospective Graduate Students:
Students interested in doing Master’s or Doctoral-level research in the lab should contact Dr. Raffel directly with a letter of interest, ideally before applying to the program officially. In your letter, provide information about your academic and research background, including unofficial transcripts. Also indicate reasons you are particularly interested in joining my lab.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for fellowships to support their graduate studies, for example from the National Science Foundation or the Environmental Protection Agency. These opportunities have deadlines in November or December of each year.
Prospective Undergraduate Researchers:
Undergraduate researchers are mentored by myself and/or members of my research team, and are welcome at lab meetings. Students doing research for course credit (Bio 4995) will be expected to complete a writing assignment (a brief paper or annotated bibliography) as part of their research experience. Interested Oakland University undergraduates should fill out the following form.
