Why Medicine?
Khalil's introduction into health and wellness started with his love for participating in sports since he was 6. As he grew up, him and his dad would begin to discuss in depth the biomechanics of the human body in many different sports, along with the physiology behind preventing injuries. His father eventually became his high school track coach at Fraser High School. Together they often rehabilitated the team's minor aches and cramps via stretches, manipulations, and hand massage techniques.
It was only going into his freshman year at Ou did he realize how medicine could tie together his love for the workings of the human body, and his desire to help improve the health of others. He's worked as a patient transporter at Henry Ford Macomb hospital since November 2020, where he learned how to safely ambulate, communicate, and work with patients during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. His work experience helped solidify his desire to become a physician in addition to his shadowing experiences, research opportunities, and community work.
