Spring has sprung this week! It has been lovely to enjoy some spring sunshine this week.
Despite some of the challenges this week, the children were so enthusiastic and excited for both our World Book Day events. Please read on for the pictures and examples of work from these two days.
In other news, on Tuesday our reception children (after the success of their cake sale earlier this term) had their first forest school session with Alderton Acorns. Miss Watkins will share more about this amazing opportunity in next week's newsletter.
The plans for this year's Easter fair are in full swing, we have games being organised by our year 5 and 6 children, Alderton Acorns will be joining us with a small stall of their own. Thanks to your generous donations for PJ day, the tombola is looking good and we are busy reaching out to as many businesses as we can for raffle prizes. But there is still room for more - more stalls, more volunteers and more fun! If you are able to help out in any way please do contact the school office!

To enhance our children's experiences at lunch time, we have a new lunchtime rota. This has a number of focused games and skill based activities for the children to join in with staff - we will be leading on these different elements to enable the children to really flourish during lunch time and reduce the number of negative interactions that happen. We have designed the rota based on the children's interests and as an opportunity for them to learn new skills outside of P.E lessons. Of course the opportunities for free play are still there and as with all new initiatives we will develop and adapt.
World Book Days!
World Book Days!
Wednesday and Friday this week have been all about reading and sharing a love of books.
On Wednesday the children came in their wonderful book-fits and completed four activities throughout the day. Potato characters, Alien puppet making, Character Battles and poems about bugs in lunchboxes. All the children took part in each activity with huge smiles on their faces, and some have even sent poems they have written since, inspired by our day! Mrs Partington has set a challenge of sending a photo of a child reading in the most unusual place.
Friday was all about bedtime stories and sharing their favourite ones. Children have written book reviews and recommended books to each other. Thank you to those who also sent a tombola prize for this year's Easter Fair. Any further donations are welcome next week please.
Finally, we have set a challenge to see how many reading Blue Peter Book Badges we can get as a school. Children need to write a book review and draw a picture of a part of that book, before sending it in. As a school we can no longer apply for children so please click here for the link.
IMG_7146.MOVBelow are some of the poems that were written by the groups on World Book Day. Every child, from Reception to Year 6, in each group added to their poem - from deciding what creatures would be in their lunch, to deciding what they were eating or the title. We then 'rapped' the poems together. I wonder if they can do it at home too?

A therapeutic digital intervention (game) for childhood anxiety:
Tales of Courage is an engaging child-led, parent/guardian supported therapeutic intervention that can be used on most smartphones or tablets.
It facilitates graded exposures (the active ingredient of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) with psychoeducation to empower 7-12 year olds with mild to moderate needs to learn to self-manage fears, worries and anxiety.
It is practical, age appropriate, non-stigmatising, encourages self management and provides user progress and health outcomes data in real time to authorised professionals.

British Science Week 2025
We have some exciting plans for British Science Week! We would love for you to come and join your child in all the fun. Please see the dates for each class.

Our school uniform and P.E. kits are an important part of school life, they show we are part of a wider community and take pride in our place in it. Our P.E. kits, enable us to take part in lessons to the best of our ability. It is important we wear the correct uniform and P.E. kits to school every day.
