In our school we have a set of values and a vision that we embed in all aspects of life at Oak Hill. Values that will enable the children to engage with the world around them in a respectful and compassionate way. These values allow our children to flourish and are skills they can take beyond Oak Hill.

In our weekly celebration worship we provide the children with opportunities to reflect and consider how they have engaged with our vision or a particular value, asking the children to share their experiences with the rest of the school community. Today's reflection was ' How have you helped someone grow this week and have your actions stopped someone from being able to grow?' This reflection helps the children to see the impact of their actions, their words and their choices.

Quite often we will ask children "How was your day?" Trying a different approach to engage the children in conversations, 'what made you feel proud today? What surprised you today? What part of the day helped you the most? What was the most challenging part of the day and how did it make you feel?' allows the children to reflect beyond just the lessons they took part in or what they had for lunch and helping them to see the skills and values they have grown from.

Think it Through Friday Maths Challenge

24 game challenge

The aim of the task is to make 24 using the 4 digits, you can use any function to help reach you goal of 24. You may only use the digit once but you can use the sum or product or answer to a function. 1 dot is easy, 2 dots medium, 3 dots tough! Good luck!

Easter Fair

After the success of Bike ability in year 5 and 6, we would love to add an additional sponsored event to the afternoon to raise money for some bike racks in school. We are going to be challenging the children to see how far they can cycle on a static bike during the 2 hours of the fair!

We are still looking for donations to the cake sale, we will be accepting cakes from Wednesday 9th April for this, please remember we are a NO NUTS school.

If anyone operates or has links to local businesses, please get in touch as we are seeking raffle prizes and will promote businesses on the supporters board. Or indeed if you would like to individually support, please contact the office.

We would love to offer face painting, if anyone is able to help please contact the school office.

Head Teacher's Award

This is a special award this week as it was recognised by someone outside of the school community.

When year 3 and 4 go swimming, out session follows the Vale School, a special school in Evesham. Last week, Hunter engaged with one of the children asking how they were and if they had had fun swimming. The teacher accompanying this child spoke to Ms Battersby to say that was a truly special moment as others rarely interact with the children and Hunter was a real credit!

Rowan

We have had a super busy week in Rowan Class.

In English Year 1 and 2 have been looking at character descriptions and we wrote a description of Evil Pea from Supertato. Reception have been looking at the book “Grandad’s Island” and we have been imagining what might happen next.

Our Geography topic is nearly finished now and we have loved learning all about the different continents, climates and cultures. It was lovely to have a day dedicated to this yesterday. Please see some pictures of this below!

Elm

This week we finished our class writing for an alternative version of The Three Little Pigs and have begun to plan an alternative version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in which Goldilocks is a thief!

We've also had a strong focus on Geography where we have looked at fair trade, local and imported foods and the advantages and disadvantages of each.

We also made some beautiful artwork which you might see quite soon...

Redwood

This week Redwood have had an extra challenge - Lots of the children have been completing their Bikeability certification. This means that lots of the class have been out and about, on the roads in and around Alderton, learning how to safely travel the roads on their bikes. Every one of them have pushed their limits and achieved their Bikeability Level 2! Well done!

In class the children have been acting very maturely in RE this week. We have been discussing racism and how religion can work to prevent it from taking place. We have had many debates in class, including whether certain statues should be allowed (E.g. Colston statue in Bristol), and whether certain examples of racism are worse than others. We have linked this back to different teachings in Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam.

Congratulations to our budding ballerinas! Miss Attwood was treated to a mini ballet show at lunchtime on the stage!

So many children have been caught being kind this week, we are not able to add all the reasons but they include holding doors, letting someone else go first, asking about someone's day and so many more!

Our school uniform and P.E. kits are an important part of school life, they show we are part of a wider community and take pride in our place in it. Our P.E. kits, enable us to take part in lessons to the best of our ability. It is important we wear the correct uniform and P.E. kits to school every day.

Children must remain off school for 48 hours following any sickness and or diarrhea. This is 48 from the last time they are unwell not the first.

Local Church service on Mothering Sunday

MOTHERING SUNDAY 30th March 2025

There will be a Cafe Church service for all 4 parishes at 10.30am in St Margaret’s Church Alderton. This will be an informal service where all ages are very welcome, and drinks and croissants will be served with an opportunity to chat to everyone; a small present will be given as a thank you to people who care for us!
