Within the Advanced Simulation in Healthcare Management, the Capstone team competed with three other hospitals in an 800,000-resident community over six years. This initiative mattered because sustainably delivering high-quality care to the most significant admission share requires balancing human resource capacity and economic viability amid internal constraints and external competition. The team was tasked with designing a strategy to optimize operations, maximize admissions, and ensure financial stability. They applied evidence-based management practices while analyzing financial data, surgical volumes, resource utilization, and stakeholder feedback to refine workflows and performance. By the final period, the hospital achieved $3.25 million in net revenue, secured a market-leading 32% cumulative admission share, and implemented long-term sustainability solutions, including opioid epidemic prevention programs, acquisition of a primary care unit, and telemedicine expansion, solidifying its reputation for high-quality community care.
