This project invites children aged 7-12 to explore the fascinating world of spiders through a blend of creativity and hands-on robotics. Younger participants will decorate pre-assembled spider-like robots, using their artistic skills to reflect the unique forms and behaviors of small land-dwelling spiders they study, while older children will take on the challenge of assembling the robots themselves. Once completed, the robots will be operated to navigate the classroom, allowing children to experience and simulate a spider’s perspective of the world. By combining artistic expression with basic robotics, the project embodies the principles of STEAM education, fostering creativity, technical skills, and a deeper appreciation for nature in an engaging, collaborative environment.
You will need this document for both your individual coaching session and your discussion with the main instructor.
First, carefully study the syllabus, or other related teaching /learning materials/content.
Second, elaborate on your understanding of the project context and learning outcomes for the session that you will be facilitating.
Third, document your facilitation design:
Lesson plan: outline main activities and sub-goals, agenda and time allocations for each part of the session, resources and materials needed for each activity, as well as any preparations you need to complete beforehand. Make sure your lesson plan includes a ‘reflection’ element, which could take various forms such as a reflective debrief with the whole group or a pair share of the three main takeaways.
Identify any potential challenges that you foresee and propose back-up plans.
Reference at least one major framework, concept, or reading that has inspired your facilitation design. This can come from the course materials or your own research.
Document your final facilitation design after your individual coach meeting and your discussion with the main instructor. This document must be completed at least two days before your facilitation session. You should build upon your original lesson plan and make necessary revisions. If helpful, refer to the provided template extracted from a facilitators’ guide for guidance.
This template outlines the essential components to include in your course project website.
