What is your relationship to food?
At the beginning of “Empty Bowls: How can artists address food insecurity?” we introduced students to the ways in which food and identity intersect, with a focus on community. Inspired by Kara Walker's "A Subtlety, or The Marvelous Sugar Baby," students used potatoes to create their own subtlety around a series of food related questions from class discussion.

How has food informed the way we interact with others and our community?
During Week 3 the class hosted a Virtual Potluck, where each student brought a dish and 'served' it to the group by sharing the story behind their dish. This activity used storytelling to create a shared experience based upon the students' personal experiences with food in their communities. Students then discussed together the ways food is central to creating, developing, and maintaining community.
