The Heartfelt Teaching Project serves as a platform for students and educators to collaboratively dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health support in our schools. Through this website, both groups come together to promote awareness and acceptance of mental health needs and support within educational settings. This site will provide teachers, specifically in art, curriculum, lesson ideas, and resources to implement in the classroom. In addition to curriculum, we provide artist examples, revolving around the topic of mental health, which can spark ideas and inspire both teachers and students. Finally, there is a plethora of mental health resources provided by the New York City Department of Education which are listed here for teachers to share with students if necessary. Our goal is to provide teachers with the resources they need to navigate students' needs when it comes to mental health and the stressful environment school can sometimes become.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a collective of graduate students enrolled in New York University's Art Education program, dedicated to teaching students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Our mission is to develop impactful art lessons centered on themes of social justice, community building, and fostering meaningful change through artistic expression. Focusing specifically on mental health in schools, we hope that these lessons can help teachers support their students and provide unique mental health-based activities to help reflect and de-stress.
