Orientation will be held in-person at the Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life (238 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012). The main orientation space is Grand Hall, located on the 5th floor of the building, and is accessible by elevator or by stairs.

Lindsey, Dean and Paulette Goddard Professor of Social Work, followed by insights on showing up at Silver: ready for social work from Courtney O’Mealley, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, and Jessie Berliner, MSW Graduate Intern, Silver Student Experience. The session also includes an introduction to career design and social work readiness with Dr. Tiffany Llewellyn.

Roundtables will be held in-person in various classrooms on the 3rd floor of the Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life.

Academic Advisement at Silver: Navigating Academic QuestionsFacilitated by Elizabeth Chon, Associate Director, MSW Program & Hosanah Bryan, MSW Academic Advisor Room: GC 361
This roundtable provides an overview of academic advisement at Silver and gives MSW students space to ask general questions on areas such as, course selection, electives, study away, and general academic planning. Students will also learn recommended tips and tricks as they prepare for their journey as a social work student.
GRACE in Action: Building Belonging Through Restorative JusticeFacilitated by Dr. Richeleen Dashield, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Social Justice Praxis Committee Co-Chair, and Adjunct Professor for Strategies to Reduce InequalitiesRoom: GC 365
Join this interactive roundtable to explore restorative justice as a relationship-centered approach to social work. Participants will engage in guided discussion and reflection while learning about the GRACE Framework, a five-part model grounded in restorative justice principles that supports belonging and compassionate practice. Explore your “why” in social work and practice sharing it confidently! In this interactive roundtable, students pair up to introduce themselves and craft a 30–60 second “elevator pitch” highlighting their professional interests, skills, and goals. Partners take turns practicing, listening, and giving supportive feedback, helping you build clarity and confidence for networking, interviews, and practicum conversations.

This is a reflective and interactive roundtable where participants will explore their intentions and hopes for their MSW journey while considering what kinds of community they want to build and belong to at NYU Silver. This space is especially welcoming for students seeking meaningful involvement, neurodivergent-friendly connection, or opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and connect with others in authentic ways.
