Sounds of De/Composition will take place primarily at the NYU Silver Center for Arts and Sciences (31 Washington Pl), with a few installations on view in the Immersion Room at the Avery Fisher Center at the Bobst Library (Floor 7, 70 Washington Sq) and at our Mercer Recording Studio (Floor 5, 194 Mercer Street).
You can access the Silver Center from both Washington Place and Waverly Place. The Waverly Place entrance is closer to our registration desk. It is currently under construction but should still be functional.
The Bobst Library is right off the southeast corner of Washington Square Park. The Avery Fisher Center is located on the 7th floor of Bobst. When you exit the elevators, there will be signage indicating the location of the Avery Fisher Center and of the Immersion Room. During the designated installation viewing time, we will have a volunteer guiding participants to the AFC installation on Friday.
The Mercer Recording Studio is a bit further away (about a 10 minute walk). We will have a volunteer guiding participants to the Mercer Studio installation during the designated installation viewing time on Saturday. Note that you should use the elevator to your right when you enter 194 Mercer – the other does not go to the 5th floor. We’ll have signage up so that you know where to go once you exit the elevator on the 5th floor.

Conference Accessibility
If you have any concerns about being able to participate leading up to and during the conference for any reason, please let the conference organizers and/or any nearby volunteers know!
Health and Safety
Before the conference:
Please reduce high-risk activities where possible. We strongly encourage attendees to test for Covid-19 before travel and prior to conference attendance. If acquiring at-home tests will be difficult for you for any reason, let the conference organizers know (we may be able to provide financial assistance and may have a small number of self-tests available for attendees on-site).
During the conference:
We encourage attendees to test for Covid-19 throughout the conference and to wear high-quality masks (we will have N95/KN95 masks available). All sessions will have a masked seating area where masks will be required. Our catering will be located indoors, but Washington Square Park is just a half block away if you’re looking for an outdoor spot to take your food.
If you have symptoms while at the conference, please immediately isolate, take a Covid-19 test, and email the conference organizers (Bailey Hilgren, bhilgren@nyu.edu and Elizabeth Frickey, elizabeth.frickey@nyu.edu) so that we can coordinate your participation via zoom.
After the conference:
If you test positive for Covid-19 after the conference, please let Bailey and Elizabeth know so that we can inform attendees who may have been exposed.
Inclusive Restroom Facilities
A single-stall non-gendered restroom is available on the third floor of the Silver Center, and there are single-stall, wheelchair-accessible, non-gendered restrooms on Lower Level 2 and the fifth floor of the Bobst Library.
Building Access Information
The Silver Center (31 Washington Pl) and Bobst Library (70 Washington Sq) should both be accessible for those with mobility impairments -- the conference committee is working to confirm functioning automatic door openers and available wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Of the Silver Center's two entrances (one on Washington Place and one on Waverly Place), the Waverly Place entrance is closest to our event but has several steps plus an uneven lip due to construction and may provide difficulties to those with mobility concerns. Both entrances are directly near elevators. All conference rooms will have reserved spaces for wheelchair users.
Program Accessibility
If a paper program would be helpful to you in terms of accessibility, do not hesitate to let one of our conference volunteers know and we will provide you with a paper copy.
