Our research team is conducting a project investigating speech interventions for “r” errors. Many children have difficulty producing the “r” sound, and some of these children are not able to eliminate their errors even after receiving years of treatment. With the goal of determining which treatment method is most effective, we are comparing several methods that have proven to be effective in previous studies.
Eligibility
kids and teens 9-15 years old who have difficulty producing the correct "r" sound
started learning American English no later than age 3
no history of major hearing impairment or developmental disorder (e.g., Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, etc.)
Compensation
free speech therapy treatment sessions (plus $5 for travel costs)
$20/hour for evaluation sessions
Time Commitment
initial evaluation
2-3 treatment sessions per week for approximately 11 weeks
our team is extremely serious about safety in the context of COVID-19
social distancing in place
disinfecting all surface areas and equipment

This research study is being conducted by research groups at New York University, Syracuse University, and Montclair State University under the supervision of Dr. Tara McAllister, Dr. Jonathan Preston, and Dr. Elaine Hitchcock.
