Matchup Previews:
1.
#10 Goons v #23 “23”
Round 1 Spotlight Matchup!
This is my most anticipated matchup of the first round! For the Goons, it was a big step forward this season. The squad put together their first undefeated season and is looking to build on a Sweet 16 appearance last semester. Their road to an undefeated season wasn’t a dominant one, as all four of their wins came by single digits which kept them from receiving the first round bye. They’re led by standout player Kojo Dadzie, who put together another phenomenal season averaging 16PPG and 11RPG! Kyle Bevenuto is another key piece on the team who anchors things down low, while the emergence of Akis Stavropoulos has been crucial for the Goons, adding another scoring option (17PPG). The Goons also have one of the best supporting casts in the league with players like Isaac Wheatley and Julius Nedzinskas. On the other side of things, “23” has put together a nice bounce back season of their own! After going below .500 last season and missing the playoffs, it’s been refreshing to see them make the leap to the playoffs this semester. Mohamed Traorey is the team's leading scorer at just under 10PPG, he will need to step up in a big way to handle a well rounded Goons squad! John Sosa, Miles Youn, and Leslie Sampaney will all need to step up as consistent scoring options if they want to make a run. “23” has had some playoff-like games against DFA and LeOffspring this season so we’ll see if they’re up to the task of an upset! The Goons have the 7th ranked offense in the league so if “23” can step up on the defensive end, it will make for a good one. We’ll see how it plays out!
2.
#13 Buckets v #20 Class 9
After cruising to a 3-0 start to begin the season, the Buckets ran into a tough matchup against #3 Ball Shem Tov in their final game of the season. The team came up short in that game but are still looking to make a deep run in the Big Dance! Ranked the #6 overall offense in the league, they’re led by Jonathan Saffayeh who is pouring in just under 15 points per contest. A big reason why I’m excited to see this matchup is because Class 9 is ranked the #2 defense in the league, only allowing 18.25PPG! This matchup is a true offense focused vs defense focused game and we’ll see which prevails! For Class 9, Kris Feng and Robin Zhai will need to bring their A game on offense to keep them afloat. Will high powered offense edge out lockdown defense or vice versa? We’ll see on Monday!
3.
#9 FLAIR v #24 CPT
It was a nice season that flew under the radar in many ways for FLAIR. The squad cruised to an undefeated season and came up just one spot short of earning a first round bye. FLAIR is led by the double digit scoring duo of Justin Lee and Marco Manzi who combine for 22 PPG! Outside of that scoring duo, FLAIR has put most of their focus on the defensive end. They’re the 4th ranked defense in the league and haven’t allowed more than 40 points in a game yet! For CPT, they’ve been up and down throughout the season. After starting 2-0, they finished the season 2-2 after two tough losses on the back end of their schedule. With only a 3 point loss to an undefeated Goons squad, they look like they’re ready to compete with some of the top ranked teams! They’ve had multiple people that have shown they’re capable of putting the ball in the basket like Chase Nixon, Chase Gillis, Jalen Holley and Quinn Krais who have all had at least one double digit scoring night respectively. If CPT can get their rotations and chemistry set with their full roster, we may be in for another Cinderella story. This matchup is going to be very closely contested regardless of the rankings and we’ll see how it plays out!
4.
#15 Island Boys v #18 The Backshots
The Island Boys probably had one of the toughest losses all season when they fell in a battle of undefeated teams against #7 The Miami Shot. This cost them a chance at a first round bye and instead gave them a tough first round matchup against the Backshots. The team has been led by BK Kothari all year long as he’s averaged a clean 15 PPG! Danny Rubenstein has served as a capable second option averaging 10 PPG. The team has a deep roster where they all get playing time but it’s going to be interesting to see how their minutes rotation is going to look with the stakes this high. On the other side of things, it’s been the Nick Argenziano show all season for The Backshots. He’s averaging a ridiculous 21.25 PPG and has really taken the league by storm! Last season, the only person to average over 20 PPG ended up taking home League MVP honors so we’ll see how far Argenziano can take his team. It seems like he just appeared out of nowhere! The team has shown they can compete with the best of them as their only two losses came from undefeated squads. In our power rankings we always look at mutual opponents, The Backshots lost to #7 The Miami Shot by 4 points and the Island Boys lost to them by 10. That tells me everything I need to know about this first round matchup. This is going to be yet another great one on our slate!
5.
#12 Palladium Villains v #21 LeOffspring
Two of the most veteran and consistent teams in our league face off in a first round date! Both of these teams made the playoffs last year and both of them got bounced in the first round so they’re looking for redemption. For the Palladium Villains, the re-acquisition of Dowon Kim has paid dividends. While he’s a very capable offensive player, the team has relied on stingy defense throughout the season to get them to 3-1 (Ranked 3rd in team defense). The team doesn’t have a single (qualified) player averaging double digit points so that just shows you how team oriented their style of play is! For LeOffspring, the team had an uncharacteristic playoff scare but were able to pull off a berth by grinding out a victory in their last game of the season. The squad got upset in the first round of the playoffs last year by a #20 seed and are looking to play that part this time around! The team has been one of the most well rounded in the league over my time here featuring players like Jack Dai, Alexis Lew, Edward Sheu, and more. However, despite all of this talent they’re still looking to get over the hump - we’ll see if this is their year! It’s always a fun one when so many familiar faces link up so I’m excited to see who can pull off the W!
6.
#14 Coast2Coast v #19 Meal Swipes
After an undefeated Fall semester with a loaded squad, many people including myself had Coast2Coast pegged for Final Four appearance. However, the squad lost in the Sweet 16 and came up short of their Championship goal. The team seemed to take that personally as they went out and added Freshman of the Year Ken Woo Lee and Matthias Mittendorfer over the off season! While they had some growing pains in the regular season, they are in the big dance ready to go as possibly THE deepest team in the league. Led by All IM’s Standout Joe McDonough, the team has too many talented names to mention - if they can get their chemistry right, they’ll be very dangerous this postseason. This isn’t your typical #14 seed! On the other side, the Meal Swipes have put together a nice season for themselves. They’ve had some big wins and some big losses so it’s going to be interesting to see which team shows up for Round 1! Pedro Bottene is the leading scorer for the team, pouring in just over 13PPG. He will need to show up in a very big way if the Meal Swipes want to pull off the upset. The Swipes are a relatively balanced team, ranking 17th in offense and 18th in defense, they have no clear weaknesses or strengths for opponents to target. Neither team will be taking the other lightly and it should lead to an intense matchup!
7.
#11 Dior Defenders v #22 “C”
The Dior Defenders turned heads and put the league on notice when they took the defending champs DFA to overtime in the season opening loss! Since then, it’s been smooth sailing for them. They won their last three games by an average margin of over 20 points per victory and have really looked the part of a top team. The acquisition of Jesiah Matthews is a big reason for their success this season as he left DFA and is now thriving in the true #1 option role. He’s pouring in just under 16 PPG and is getting plenty of help from teammates Zach Holzman and Dave Orta who are averaging 11 PPG and 16 PPG respectively. This “big 3” is hitting their groove at the right time and will look to keep it rolling in the playoffs. They are definitely one of the dark horse squads to make a run at the title! For “C”, they have a nice dynamic duo of their own! Weikai Luo and Ningquan Zhang are combining for just under 25 PPG themselves and are hungry to prove themselves as an up and coming duo in this league. The team has been battle tested this season in many close games and this is going to be their biggest test yet. We’ll see which stars shine the brightest on Tuesday night!
8.
#16 Box Munchers 2.0 v #17 NYU Langers
Who doesn’t love closely seeded matchups? Last but not least we have our #16 v #17 game! For the Box Munchers 2.0, they’ll look to bounce back from a first round exit last semester. They’re back with the same squad and after a season opening trouncing, they’ve cruised to three straight victories! The biggest question for them is, where are they getting their offense from? If players like Ben Nourafshan and Will Goldbaum can step up on the offensive side, BM2.0 is a very formidable team. On the opposite side, we have the NYU Langers! They have been dominating on the offensive side of the ball this year and have the 4th ranked offense overall. This is due to one of the most impressive scoring breakdowns in the entire league between Martin Liu, Xinzhang Wang, Oscar Wan, and Vincent Zeng who are all averaging over or close to 10PPG. This even scoring attack is going to pay dividends in the postseason as teams can’t zero in on one single option. This is probably one of the most underrated matchups of round 1 and I genuinely have no clue how it’s going to play out!

Commissioners Notes:
We are finally here - playoffs! I will be on site for every single playoff game like last semester and I’m super excited to see how things play out! There are a few things that I want to throw out there before we jump into bracket play.
-RESPECT. We will have a zero tolerance policy for the playoffs when it comes to fighting and technical fouls. I will be administering suspensions and ejections to anyone not abiding but our guidelines. Bottom line is play the game the way it’s supposed to be played and respect your opponents/our staff. I will not be putting up with any of this in the postseason and will not hear any appeals to discipline handed down. JUST PLAY BALL!
-THE ONLY PLAYERS ELIGIBLE FOR THE POST SEASON ARE PLAYERS WHO PLAYED AT LEAST 1 GAME FOR YOUR TEAM IN THE REGULAR SEASON. I will be hearing appeals from teams until before the first game. If someone was out due to a circumstance, I’ll consider approving them but that must be communicated to me.
-I will have the bleachers out for the quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship. I couldn’t get it for the earlier rounds unfortunately. We will be doing our Final 4 Broadcast again!
-BE SURE OF YOUR TEAMS SCHEDULE! That includes games where it’s “winner of A vs winner of B.” Know when you’re going to be playing if you win a game so you’re ready to go. We are running on an extremely tight schedule so it’s going to be nearly impossible for me to reschedule games (Outside of switches game times). Again, make sure you look ahead to see all possible matchup days and times!
-Let’s have a great tournament, super excited and I can’t express that enough.
Signing off….

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, a lot can still happen! Outside of a few teams, legitimately EVERYONE still has a chance to make the big dance. Even the 0-3 squads still have a very realistic avenue to get in if they win their final games! Every team who’s not specified as “ELIMINATED” can still make it. There are a number of teams who have clinched but there isn’t a single team who has clinched a certain seeding or bye yet so again, every remaining game matters!

Power Rankings are based solely on Eye Test, Strength of Schedule, Results .VS. common opponents, and H2H game results. They do NOT incorporate just records like our normal standings. The Power Rankings are just a system we use - they have no affiliation with the playoffs as playoff teams are based off of our normal standings!
Player of the Month:
Nick Argenziano- The Backshots (pause)
After getting a shout out in our last Wrap Up Report, Argenziano kept it rolling in the second half of the season. Unfortunately, it didn’t continue to translate to wins. However, after averaging 21.25 PPG (3rd in league) along with 5.25 RPG and 2.5 SPG, it was enough to earn Argenziano another shout out & PoTM! Argenziano’s biggest performance came in a battle with an undefeated Dragon squad. He dropped 33 points in a closely contested loss vs a top 10 team in our Power Rankings.
His team is now patiently awaiting their fate as they finished the season 2-2 and hope for a solid seed during March Madness!
Other Notables:
Gal Sanar- Dragon
While Sanar’s sample size hasn’t been as big as other players, his impact has been undeniable. Sanar is currently leading the league in Rebounds while also averaging a double double. He had a huge performance in March where he dropped a strong 15 points and 18 rebounds. His total numbers on the season are 11PPG and a whopping 15RPG! We’ll see if the well rounded Dragon squad can keep the undefeated season alive once we enter the playoffs!
Adam Agoncillo- Guavas
After earning himself All IM’s First Team last semester, Agoncillo has continued rolling this year. Like last semester, the Guavas have the #1 ranked offense in the league! Agoncillo is the driving force behind it, averaging an efficient 18.67 PPG and leading his team in assists with just over 2 a game. It’s going to be very interesting to see if the Guavas can finally get over the hump in the postseason this year!
Akis Stavropoulos- Goons
The Goons had some bad luck last season during their Cinderella run when Kojo Dadzie missed their second round playoff game. The team heavily relies on him and Kyle Benvenuto to provide the spark on the offensive end. However, Akis Stavropoulos has burst onto the scene this semester with an impressive 24 point outing to give the Goons a W over team “C.” With Isaac Wheatley embracing his role doing the dirty work for the Goons, Kyle Benvenuto and Kojo Dadzie as present, and a newfound scorer in Akis Stavropoulos - we’ll see if they can continue rolling!

Commissioners Notes:
As mentioned in the beginning of the report, there are only two weeks left in the regular season with a bunch of moving parts still occurring. We are now at 11 total forfeits this season which is less than ideal but I will acknowledge that they came from the same few teams. Overall, I haven’t been present as much as I’d like on site but I will be there for every single playoff game!
Really looking forward to seeing how everything plays out! I’m working on getting our Final 4 broadcast on NYUTV again so hopefully I’ll have information about that soon. Let’s finish the season strong!

We’ve had just two forfeits this season which is solid but I want to keep that as low as possible. Please communicate with me as I can always try to help with reschedules and adjustments.

The Power Rankings are just a system we use - they have no affiliation with the playoffs as playoff teams are based off of our normal standings!
Player of the Month:
Fernan Gonzalez - The Miami Shot
What a great start to the season it’s been for Fernan Gonzalez and The Miami Shot. The Junior averaged a double double while leading his team to a 2-0 record in February. Gonzalez put up 17PPG to go along with 12RPG and a very solid 1.5 BPG. He’s been an anchor on the defensive end on the floor, leading his team to the 2nd best Defensive Rating in the league! We’ll see if he can continue averaging a double double through his teams final two games.
Other Notables:
Taylor Golden- Schnook
Speaking of double doubles, Taylor Golden put up an epic performance in their season opener. He put up a whopping 20 Points and 17 Rebounds in a win over In The House. If they had another game, he might’ve been crowned player of the month!
Ofir Huber- Business Ballers
Last year’s Defensive Player of the Year is off to a great start this season. He’s averaging 20PPG and has led the way for the Business Ballers’ 2-0 start. After a deep playoff run last season, they have big championship aspirations this season!
Sebastian Chancellor- Schnooks
Continuing the double double trend for this wrap up report with a great showing from Sebastian Chancellor! Alongside Taylor Golden, Seb put up an impressive 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the W. Chancellor made the All IM’s First Team last semester and led the league in assists - although it’s looking like he’s taking more of an aggressive approach this season!
Nick Argenziano- The Backshots (pause)
Argenziano has led the way for The Backshots this season, leading them to a 2-0 start! Through two games he’s averaging a very respectable 17.5PPG, 5RPG, and a phenomenal 3SPG. The Grad Student is off to a very impressive start in his debut season!
Shangkang Xue- Weak Squid
After a hard fought loss in the season opener, Weak Squid had a great bounce back win against LemonPepper! The Freshman is averaging 18PPG and 5.5RPG! Him and Richard Zhang are starting to look more comfortable with their new squad - watch out once that chemistry continues to build!

Another Wrap Up Report down! One month into the season it’s been a good one thus far. With just 5 weeks remaining in the regular season, there’s so much that can still happen. I must admit that I haven’t been able to get to as many games as I normally would this semester thus far but I’m going to be making a huge effort to make more games during the second half!
Let’s keep the forfeits down, the sportsmanship up, and let’s finish strong.
Signing off…

Spring Competitive League Basketball Wrap Up Report 1 - Early Season (1/30/24)
All, welcome to another season of Intramural Basketball! If you haven’t played in our Comp Basketball or Soccer Leagues before, I send out Wrap Up Reports every few weeks to update everyone on Standings, Power Rankings, Award Races, League Leaders, and more!
You can find an example of one I wrote last season here if you’re interested in seeing what it fully entails once we get deeper into the season. For this report, it will be an early season report that will be relatively brief. The next report I send out will be updated with all games that have been played. Enjoy!

Fall Competitive League Basketball End of Season Wrap Up (12/12/23)
Thank you all again for a great season! I was trying to get this out sooner but got caught up with a lot of end of semester responsibilities. Congratulations again to our undefeated champs, DFA! This wrap up will highlight end of season awards and one final commissioners note.
Awards Race Winners:
Finals MVP:
Jeffrey Hudson (DFA)
11 Points / 9 Rebounds / 3 Blocks
After coasting for most of the regular season, Hudson became THE key contributor for DFA in their run to the finals. Jeffrey anchored down the paint on both the offensive and defensive end. He provided timely blocks, rebounds, and buckets in the Finals against Schnookems and was truly the game changer in the matchup.
MVP:
Nick Tung (Schnookems)
20.8 PPG / 4.6 RPG / 2.8 APG / 2.8 SPG
While there were 10 VERY qualified candidates, this season’s league MVP goes to Nick Tung. Nick was the only player in the entire league to average over 20 PPG and he did it on a team that went to the finals. Schnookems only regular season loss came due to forfeit and Tung was a main reason why. After winning Finals MVP last season, Tung strung together a phenomenal year from top to bottom.

Spotlight Matchup
#11 Schnookems v #14 Poole Party
On paper, seeing an 11 seed and a 14 seed in the Elite Eight makes it seem like both squads had a Cinderella run to get to this point. However, if you know both of these teams - it’s no surprise that these two have made it as far as they have. Both of these teams are loaded with talent and have looked phenomenal in the post-season thus far. For the defending champs Schnookems, I have to keep them as the team to beat and the championship favorites. They haven’t lost a single game since I started working at NYU in January 2023 (excluding forfeit loss this szn).
It all starts with their two MVP candidates Nick Tung & Sebastian Chancellor - between the two, they’re averaging a whopping 38.8 PPG. Nick is leading the league in points while Sebastian is leading in assists and is third in points. Schnookems isn’t just a two man show though! Harlan Banks and Taylor Golden are both top players in the league in their own right while Malone Lohmann provides valuable minutes. After a dominant win in Round 1 over #22 Biajigulu and convincing win over the undefeated #6 Guangdong Tigers in the S16, Schnookems looks poised for another championship run!
For Poole Party, they rely heavily on the star duo of their own! Freshman of the Year favorite Ken Woo Lee has led the charge all season long for Poole Party while Edward Choe had a huge showing in the S16. The two were the main catalysts in a shocking victory over #3 Coast to Coast. Shangkang Xue, Matthias Mittendorf, and captain Richard Zhang all provide quality time on the floor on both ends. Poole Party most definitely has the talent to make a run at the title but this will be a huge challenge. The squad is hitting their groove at the right time as they’ve won 6 straight games (counting the Elite League). Their only loss? A loss on opening night Schnookems 44-39! We’ll see what happens this time when these teams run it back.
2.
#4 Guavas v #12 Firebreathing Nighthawks
The Guavas haven’t been playing up to their usual standard as of late but have still found a way to get to the Elite Eight. After cruising to a 4-0 regular season, the squad had some trouble jumping back into form after the bye week. They squared off with #20 Kimmel Killerz after the Killerz pulled off the upset over LeOffspring in Round 1. This game was an absolute thriller, going to TRIPLE Overtime and ended in a game winner from Ary Gummakonda. The Guavas were able to survive the upset scare to get back on track in the Elite Eight. The squad has all the talent necessary to go all the way with MVP candidate Adam Agoncillo, sharpshooters Hudson Willet & Ary Gummakonda, and a slew of solid rotation guys. On the flip side, the Firebreathing Nighthawks road to the Elite Eight has been a hard fought road. After squeezing out a 5 point W in round 1, they followed that up with a 1 point upset win over undefeated #5 Team Takeover. The team relies heavily on their defense to pull out victories and it will be no different in this matchup. The Nighthawks will need DJ Young to carry the offensive load if they want a shot at the Final Four!
3.
#1 DFA v #9 Rubin Tigers
Two of the most well rounded rosters in the league will face off in the Elite Eight! For #1 DFA, they had their hardest matchup of the season in the S16 against a very tough Shanghai Sharks squad. They were able to fight out a 4 point W in an extremely intense matchup. DFA has 10+ strong players on their roster which helps them wear down opponents. They have a full court press on all game, so having a deep roster helps keep them fresh and gives them an edge! They were able to beat the Sharks without their big man Jeffrey Hudson and hope to have him back going into this upcoming matchup. I could name a number of notable players on the roster but they all contribute in one way or another. They’re looking to reclaim the Intramural throne this season after a shocking upset loss in the Spring! For the Rubin Tigers, they’ve been cruising since a loss on opening night. They have put together 5 straight victories, including convincing wins in both round 1 and 2. As mentioned, they have an extremely balanced attack as well with four players averaging double figure points! Jake Edwards, James Wells, Seraphin Devallet, and Dowon Kim will look to pull off a huge victory to send them to the Final Four. After a heartbreaking loss in the Championship last season, the Rubin Tigers are looking to make things right in Fall 23!
4.
#2 Ball Shem Tov v (Winner of #10 New Jersey Nets v #7 The Bop Bandits)
TBD - #7 v #10 on Sunday!
Commissioners Notes:
Only notes for this week are good luck to everyone remaining!
As always, please respect my staff and the facility. I know these games get intense but we are truly trying our best to continue providing a good program for you all. Signing off…

This last week of games in the regular season have so many implications for teams playing AND for teams watching. From #16 all the way through #37 These games have some importance to the final seedings! Some teams are in a “win and you’re in” situation, others need certain things to play out in their favor if they want to get in the big dance, and others are trying to line up a favorable first round matchup. I’m really intrigued to see how these upcoming games on 11/20 and 11/21 shape everything up!
Now let’s take a look at the current playoff picture if the season ended today (11/17)! A lot of changes from last week! Thankfully for some teams, there’s still A LOT that can change. There’s only three teams as of right now who're eliminated from playoff contention, every game remaining still matters! Additionally, only 9 undefeated teams remain!!!
First Round Bye is a huge advantage as they only have to win four games in a row for the championship instead of five games in a row like everyone else!

Player of the Week:
Stone Abramson- Team Hollywood
It was a tough week for Team Hollywood as they suffered a few losses. However, Stone Abramson played out of his mind and earned himself Player of the Week honors for the first time. His team was tasked with playing two games in one night on 11/13 due to a conflict and Stone showed out in both. He put up 26 points in an extremely chippy matchup against an undefeated Guangdong Tigers squad and followed that up with a 23 point outing against #10 LeOffspring. The crafty lefty left his mark this season despite his team being eliminated from playoff contention!
Other Notables:
Sebastian Carillo- LeOffspring
Sebastian earned himself a shout out this week because of an all around phenomenal performance on 11/13. He came the closest out of anyone so far this season to a rare triple double! Sebastian put up 12 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and added 4 steals as well. We’ll see if anyone can pull off their best 2017 Russell Westbrook impersonation before the season ends.
Kyle Benvenuto- Goonsquad
Kyle did a little bit of everything in the loss to The Blue Balls last week. He put up 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. We’ll see if he and Summer League standout Kojo Dadzie can clinch a must win game Tuesday night against Stuy to send them to the playoffs!

I’ve said it a bunch in this wrap up but with just two days left in the regular season and so much left at stake, I’m super excited for these upcoming games. I’ll be on site both nights seeing how everything plays out! After the conclusion of Tuesday night's games (11/21) I’ll get everything uploaded as soon as possible. I’ll be releasing a “Playoff Preview” which will entail every single playoff matchup with a summary! Additionally, as you can see above - the voting period for end of season awards is officially underway. I will be consulting with my staff (refs & stat keepers) to get their votes for these awards. The final call on all awards is mine of course but getting their insight is going to help me narrow some things down. Signing off…

With just TWO weeks left in the regular season, there’s still so much that can happen! We have a slew of teams battling for those last playoff spots. Some control their own destiny while others need some help to get into the big dance. We also have 10 undefeated teams left in the league.
Now let’s take a look at the current playoff picture if the season ended today (11/10)! Thankfully for some teams, there’s still A LOT that can change. There’s only one team as of right now who’s eliminated from playoff contention, every game remaining still matters!
First Round Bye is a huge advantage as they only have to win four games in a row for the championship instead of five games in a row like everyone else!

Player of the Week:
Seraphin Davallet- Rubin Tigers
The Tigers were in need of a statement victory in a crucial matchup against the undefeated New Jersey Nets last week and Seraphin showed up in a big way. The sophomore had his biggest game of the season when they needed him the most, pouring in 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals en route to a 14 point victory. Davallet and the Tigers seem to be hitting their stride with back to back victories after a tough week 1 loss. We’ll see if they can continue that hot streak against The Chosen Ones in their season finale!
Other Notables:
Liam French- Team Takeover
Team Takeover has been flying under the radar all season due to most of their games being on the backend of the schedule. However, they burst onto the scene last week with a huge win over Deven Jessa! Liam French dazzled in this matchup, dropping a cool 21 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists performance. Team Takeover has positioned themselves nicely to make a run at a first round bye while French has established himself as a serious FOTM and MVP candidate. We’ll see if they can finish their season strong!
Joshua Hajibai- Ball Shem Tov
In a battle of undefeated teams, Hajibai led Ball Shem Tov to a closely contested victory over the Shanghai Sharks. Hajibai put up a very efficient 17 point performance to lead his team to a 6 point W! Ball Shem Tov will look to cap off their undefeated season against a gritty Los Angeles Warriors squad.

Commissioners Notes:
We now just have two weeks left in the regular season and the playoff race is scorching hot right now! We have battles for the first round bye as well an all out war for the last few playoff spots. The matchups have only gotten better as the season has progressed and I’m super excited for the playoffs to get here. Elite League invitations have been sent out to captains as well!
In this last part of the wrap up I want to bring up something that’s gotten completely out of hand these past few weeks and that’s technical fouls. I want to remind everyone that this is an Intramural League, as much as I want it to be high level and professional - we need to treat everyone with respect. The other night there were 6 technical fouls called which is completely unacceptable. Referees are out here trying their best to provide fair and exciting games, they need to be respected on the floor. That’s not to say calls can’t be questioned but you all need to recognize that these are students too who are trying their absolute best. Additionally, all fights going forward will result in an automatic suspension. I will not tolerate it anymore and am letting everyone know now that it will be zero tolerance going forward. Let’s focus on the game rather than trash talk and fights.
It hasn’t been an issue all season but I’ve noticed a large uptick in it so I wanted to address it. Let’s finish the season strong! Signing off…

Upcoming Spotlight Matchups:
#5 Guavas (2-0) v #14 KD’s Burner (1-1)
Hudson Willet and Adam Agoncillo are combining for over 30PPG for a stacked Guavas roster. They’ll look to stay hot against Xiaoyu Ma, JJ Davidson, and a very underrated KD’s Burner squad! KD’s burner could absolutely be 2-0 right now if they weren’t missing Davidson in their second game. The Guavas are averaging a ridiculous 56 points per game as a team! This is going to be a very telling matchup for both sides.
#1 Schnookems (2-0) v #11 NCAA D4 (2-0)
The reigning champs and their dominant big 3 of Sebastian Chancellor, Nick Tung, and Harlan Banks will look to continue their reign of terror over a top 12 NCAAD4 crew. MVP candidate Jeaguen Kim has the perfect opportunity to strengthen his MVP campaign with a huge upset win for D4! He’s second in the league in PPG (20.5 a game) so look for opponents to start game planning around him.
#4 New Jersey Nets (3-0) v #12 Rubin Tigers (1-1)
New Jersey’s top tier defense has been on display all season, allowing just a measly 23 PPG to opponents! This ranks 3rd in the league and it’s been tough for teams to score against them. On the offensive end, they do it by committee and rely on team chemistry. On the flip side, Jake Edwards and Dowon Kim secured a much needed victory last week to get their squad back on track after a tough loss to #6 The Bop Bandits. The dynamic duo will put that top ranked NJN defense to the test.
#7 Ball Shem Tov (2-0) v #9 Shanghai Sharks (3-0)
BATTLE OF UNDEFEATED TEAMS!!! It’s been a very different road to perfection for both squads however. Ball Shem Tov has had back to back mercy wins while the Sharks have had three straight nail biters to start the year! The Sharks are just +7 with a 3-0 record which should tell you everything you need to know. For Ball Shem Tov, Jacob Bergstein is leading the league in scoring with a whopping 23.5 PPG - we’ll see if the Sharks can slow him down! Floor general Robert Riley has been leading the way for the Sharks with a top 5 assists per game output and a scrappy 3 steals per game as well.
#2 Coast to Coast (2-0) v #19 Talented Hoopers (1-2)
It’s rare to see a roster have too much talent but that’s the case with Coast to Coast. Slowly but surely they’re figuring out their rotation and building chemistry - if you think that they’re scary now, just wait until they get some more games under their belt. Joe McDonough, David Hu, and Nabeel Elabdeia are three of the headliners on C2C. On the other side of the coin, it’s not usual that I’ll put a team below .500 in a spotlight matchup but I think the Talented Hoopers are more than meets the eye. After a dominant 30 point win in the opener, they’ve had back to back 3 point losses. In a must win game to clinch a playoff spot, I think we’ll see their best foot forward to challenge a top 2 ranked team!
Player of the Week:
Nick Tung- Guard / Schnookems
After dominating the championship game last semester en route to winning our first ever Finals MVP award, Tung has picked up right where he left off this season! In a primetime matchup against Summer All IM’s First Team guard Kojo Dadzie and the Goonsquad, Tung didn’t disappoint. He poured in a cool 28 points and stuffed the rest of the stat sheet with 6 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block! It doesn’t seem like anyone has been able to check him in 2023 and he’s positioned himself nicely in our League MVP Rankings. With Taylor Golden and others missing from the squad this year, Tung has been able to take his play to the next level!
Other Notables:
Jake Edwards- Guard / Rubin Tigers
Edwards dropped 26 points in a much needed blow out victory for the Rubin Tigers. After a slow start in game 1, it seems like the Tigers are back on track!
Ben Leff- The Greek Freaks
With The Greek Freaks in danger of falling to 0-3 and on the outside looking in of playoff contention, Leff delivered. He put up a strong 20 point, 7 rebound performance and kept his team’s head above water coming down the stretch.

Another Wrap Up Report down! It’s going to be interesting to see how the playoff race shapes up coming down the stretch. With just a few weeks remaining in the regular season, the action is going to get better and better as certain matchups will be very high stakes. For the elite league update, Invites will be going out this Friday (11/3) to the top teams in this league. Teams will have the opportunity to accept or reject that invitation over the weekend and if they choose to reject, another team will receive that invitation in their place. We are aiming to kick off that league on Sunday (11/12) so getting it all set and ready to go will be a priority.
As far as this competitive league goes - if anyone wants to make a case for someone to be on Award watch just let me know, I’m always open to suggestions. Looking forward to finishing the season strong! Signing off…

Fall Paulson Competitive League Basketball 2 (9/25/23)
All,
Appreciate everyone's patience with the second edition of our League Wrap Ups. I oversee 15+ leagues and 3,500+ total students so finding time for these can be tough sometimes. I’ve combined weeks 2 and 3 together in this Wrap Up and will most likely do it every two weeks going forward rather than every one. I’m very happy with how this league is progressing and I’m getting excited for how things turn out. This wrap up will have updated standings, PoTW & other notables, League Leaders, Award Races, and announcements about Elite League Invitations.

There are still no teams eliminated from Playoff Contention! As mentioned in the last Wrap Up Report, 65% of this league's teams will advance to the Big Dance. Even if you started 0-2, you still have a really solid chance at making a run back into contention. Remember you can still make additions to your roster at any point during the regular season but players must appear in at least 1 regular season game to be playoff eligible!
Player of the Week:
Chima Obayi- Forward / Chopstick
One of the most clutch performances of the year without a doubt! Trailing the Mavs by 5 with less than a minute to go, team Chopstick needed a prayer to find a way to win the game. Obayi answered those prayers with two ridiculous plays back to back. First, after a steal, Chima lined up for three with the clock winding down and hit it long range WHILE getting fouled. This cut the lead to just two points with him at the charity stripe trying to convert on the four point play. However, when Obayi missed the free throw, many in the gym including myself thought it was over - he had other plans. After securing a rebound off of the miss, Obayi hit a turnaround mid-range shot off of the glass to force overtime. In OT, Chopstick was able to fend off a Mavs comeback effort to secure their first victory of the season. Obayi finished with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks to earn himself PoTW honors!
Other Notables:
Jeaguen Kim- Guard / NCAAD4
Kim put up an impressive 26 point, 6 rebound, 5 assist performance in a nail biting victory over Birds Aren’t Real.
Adam Ogonsiglo- Forward / Guavas
Adam contributed 20 points and 8 rebounds in Guavas first victory of the season!
Sebastian Chancellor- Guard / Schnookems
Sebastian put together 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Reigning Champs in a tight matchup against Poole Party!

Commissioners Notes:
I hope everyone’s been enjoying the league thus far and that your teams are gaining chemistry/momentum. For the commissioners notes this week, I wanted to talk about some things that we have coming up. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about when the Elite League Invitations are going to be sent out. I’m hoping to get invitations out by the last week in October so the league can kick off the first week of November. These invitations will be based on interest, place in the standings, and eye test. I’m going to send out an email next week with an interest form for teams who want to be added. If anyone has any questions before I send out details, please just let me know! Looking forward to seeing more teams in action as I’ve only been able to watch about 28/40 teams play thus far. Signing off…

There’s still an entire season left to be played! Yes, we had some big wins in week 1 but 65% of teams make the playoffs. Even if you had a tough week one loss, there’s plenty of time to bounce back!
Player of the Week:
Jacob Bergstein- Guard / Ball Shem Tov
THIRTY BALL!!!! What a start to the season it was for the Ball Shem Tov Boys. Not only did they cruise to a thirty point victory in the season opener but Jacob Bergstein cruised to a thirty point performance himself. His performance was so impressive that he actually matched the other team's full point production for the night. Jacob sprinkled in 5 rebounds as well on the night. After winning the IM’s participant of the year last year, it looks like Jacob is ready for more!
Other Notables:
Dhruv Patel- Guard / Hoops
If it wasn’t for a heartbreaking game winner, Dhruv Patel might have won the W1 Player of the Week! Dhruv showed off his range all night, cashing 5 three’s on his way to a 22 point, 5 rebound night in the opener. He accounted for more than half of his team's points and was the focal point for the Hoops offense all night. He’ll look to lead his team to a bounce back victory in their next matchup against a very impressive Coast to Coast team.
Ofir Huber- Forward / Kimmel Killerz
Check out why Ofir Huber earned himself a notable nod for W1 here.
Eytan Gilady- Forward / The Bop Bandits
The first double double of the Fall 2023 season belongs to Eytan Gilady! After a dominant 17 point - 12 Rebound night, he led the Bop Bandits to a double digit win in the season opener! Being top 5 in PPG and top 1 in RPG will always get you a shout out in our weekly notables.

Commissioners Notes:
It was an action packed first week! Before I jump into the Commissioner's Notes, I want to link everyone to our Instagram and TikTok. This is where we’ll be posting our post game interviews and weekly highlights. Check it out for all visuals this season! The game winner from Monday is already up and running.
I want to give everyone a reminder that these first few weeks we’ll be scouting teams in this league to see who we’re going to invite to the Elite League. Additionally, if you see a game result plugged in inaccurately, let me know! We have over 15 leagues and 3.5K students we manage so sometimes mistakes do happen. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this league plays out for the rest of the semester and I’m going to make an effort to be on site as much as I physically can. I want to see every team play at least once in person before the playoffs!
If you see me on site or on campus don’t hesitate to say hello or ask questions about our programs, I’ll have a more insightful Commissioner's Note next week as we have more action underway on Monday. Please make sure you’re showing up to games on time and communicating reschedule needs if required. Again, uncommunicated forfeits are completely unacceptable this semester and will affect future registrations. Signing off for this week…

Menon leads the league with 22.3 PPG and isn’t afraid to share the rock too with 3.0 Assists Per Game. Menon erupted for 29 points in a battle of undefeated teams while pouring in buckets from long range. Menon will look to continue his stellar season in Week 3!

Player of the Week-
Kojo Dadzie- Ballerz
There were many qualified candidates for Week 1’s Player of the Week but none contributed more to their team’s success than Kojo Dadzie. Kojo was a swiss army knife in the opening week averaging 17.5 PPG, 6.5 Rebounds Per Game, 4.0 Assists Per Game, and 3.0 Steals Per Game!
His assists and steals totals lead the league in those respective categories and his team is 2-0 with a whopping +45 point differential. Kojo brings the intensity on both ends of the floor and always keeps his teammates involved. While he could have easily averaged over 20 PPG, he opted for team success and unselfishness. We’ll see what he can bring in week 2, congrats Kojo!
Commissioner’s Note
Looking forward to a strong week 2 and to see how everything starts shaping up. If anyone has any requests or suggestions, I’m always open to hearing them. Going forward, I’ll start putting in game rewinds, award races, team spotlights, and more!

Spring 23 Comp Basketball Playoffs Round 1 Wrap Up (5/1/23)
It was an exciting slate of games this past Sunday! Out of the eight playoff games that were played, seven of them were decided by six or less points! Every top seed was put to the test and the competitive balance was very solid. The Quarter Finals will take place this Saturday followed by the Semi Finals and Championship this Sunday.
Quarterfinals

4:00 PM
#3 LeOffspring v #6 Rubin Tigers
5:00 PM
#1 OnYaHead v #9 Munch Inc.
This is the schedule from the spreadsheet but I’m going to incorporate it into this as well. In this wrap up I’m going to highlight the Player of the Week, provide game recaps, and more!
Game Recaps (Apologies if names are mixed up)
#1 OnYaHead vs #16 Ball Handlers- OnYaHead W (41-35)
In the first game of the day things got physical in a hurry. OnYaHead started off the game on an 8-0 run backed by a hot start from Oba Oluwehinmi but that didn’t knock the #16 seeds confidence at all. They quickly fought their way back into the game behind a monster effort from big man Theo Bentley. Bentley kept the Ball Handlers head above water all game with his smooth midrange game and strong inside presence on both ends of the floor. OnYaHead struggled from behind the arc but forward Okpe Ogedegbe was relentless on the offensive boards to give them second and third opportunities down the stretch. The game came down to the wire but OnYaHead was able to pull away at the end to survive a massive upset scare.
#2 Spicy Chicken Sandwich vs #15 Kinda Need WZL- Spicy Chicken Sandwich W (31-28)
Another top seed was put to the test when these two teams linked up in the second game of the day. It seemed like there was a lead change every time down the floor as both teams traded big bucket after big bucket. This was definitely the craziest atmosphere of the day as Kinda Need WZL had a huge crowd that brought the noise. Michael Wong, Kevin Chen, and the rest of the Sandwich Squad were able to block out that noise and force key turnovers at the end of the regulation. They were also able to cash in on timely free throws to help seal the deal and survive another round 1 scare.
#3 LeOffspring vs #14 KD’s Burner- LeOffspring W (36-35 OT)
*****GAME OF THE DAY*****
Earlier in the season, Leo Butsugam hit a buzzer beater shot to lift LeOffspring over KD’s Burner in an absolute thriller. It was only right that both of these teams met up in the playoffs for a much needed sequel. It’s rare that the sequel lives up to the original, especially when the original was as riveting as it was. However, this might’ve been even better!
Up by five with less than a minute to go, it looked like LeOffspring was going to secure the W and move forward to the next round, Dowon Kim had other plans. The crafty floor general was controlling the pace of play the entire game and really turned it up when his team needed him most. After hitting a clutch three to cut the lead to two points, Kim was trusted with the ball in his hands with time winding down to try and tie it up. Utilizing his tight handle, Kim was able to drive around two defenders and made a floater off the glass to send the game to OT. Most teams wouldn’t be able to survive a gut punch like that but LeOffspring was able to keep their composure and get a victory in Overtime. Game of the day without a doubt.
#4 Kimmel Killerz vs #13 Coast to Coast- Kimmel Killerz W (31-29)
In yet another battle it was the Kimmel Killerz squeezing out a tight victory over Coast to Coast. The Kimmel Killerz PG (smooth lefty, can shoot, from NJ, Rahul Surana?) was crucial in this game, rattling in multiple timely threes and big buckets. Every time the Killerz pulled away, Coast to Coast had an answer to keep them within striking distance. Jerry Tian was solid for Coast to Coast as was David Hu. The 13 seed gave the Killerz a run for their money before a key steal at the end of regulation sealed the deal.
#5 Borat’s Ballerz vs #12 Island Boyz- Island Boyz W (36-31)
During March Madness they always say beware of the 5 v 12 matchups, that old adage seemed to hold true in another tightly contested matchup! Both teams came in with very different styles of play which made for an interesting 30 minutes. For Borat’s Ballerz, it was the Joe McDonough show. McDonough accounted for a large majority of the teams points and kept their heads above water all game! With 5+ threes, including some from Curry range, he took on the offensive burden and fought through double teams like clockwork. On the flip side of it, the Island Boyz poured in points by committee led by captain JJ Davidson and Shray Awasti (?). Their ball movement and aggressive defense led to some open opportunities down the stretch. Timely defense and clutch shots around the rim led the Island Boyz to the first upset of the postseason!
#6 Rubin Tigers v #11 Langone Lads- Rubin Tigers W (31-25)
Both teams struggled from behind the arc for most of the game and did their best to manufacture offense in different ways. Jake Edwards was able to get it going inside the arc and around the rim after his outside shot wasn’t falling. The Rubin Tigers did a great job on the defensive end forcing the Langone Lads into a lot of tough shots and draining turnovers. Jerry Kong (?) was able to hit a few tough threes for the Langone Lads in the second half to try and give them some life but ultimately the Tigers were able to pull out a tough one.
#7 DFA v #10 The Bundle of Swish- The Bundle of Swish W (33-27)
DFA came into this season as the reigning champs and had plans to repeat, The Bundle of Swish had different plans. TBoS was able to handle the intense on ball pressure by DFA to line up high percentage looks and convert on opportunities. DFA struggled to take care of the ball with many unforced turnovers in the 2nd half that really swung momentum the other way. Derek Huell (? Green shoes, shooter) was able to stretch the floor for TBoS and cashed in on 3 free throws down the stretch after he got fouled behind the arc. DFA’s two big men down low were able to keep them in the game with hard nosed play inside the paint but the turnovers piled up too much for the defending champs. TBoS looks for another upset against the 2 seed this Saturday!
#8 Shanghai Qilins v #9 Munch Inc- Munch Inc W (42-17)
If there was one take away from this past Sunday, it’s that Munch Inc is NOT a traditional 9 seed. The team dazzled in the late slot showing why they are one of, if not the most, dominant team in the Palladium League. With great team chemistry, the ability to shoot from deep, and the capacity to play above the rim they pose matchup nightmares for opponents. Harlan Banks and Sebastian Chancellor brought the excitement all game with multiple dunks and fast break lobs! The team even started this matchup with just four players and was still able to get off to an early lead. It’s going to be very interesting to see how they fair in their matchup with #1 Overall Seed OnYaHead this Saturday. Was this past win a fluke or is Munch Inc the team to beat? This upcoming matchup will make that very clear!
Player of the Week
Dowon Kim- KD’s Burner
It’s rare that the PoTW goes to someone in a losing effort but Dowon left no doubt as to why he’s more than deserving of it. A three to cut the lead to one possession, then a layup as time expired to send the game to overtime, clutch would be an understatement! Kim’s tight handle, dazzling playmaking, high IQ, and clutch genes earn him Round 1’s PoTW!
Commissioners Note
Very happy with how the games turned out last week and hoping for more of the same this Saturday-Sunday! If anyone has any clips or videos they would like to share with me that would be greatly appreciated. Very excited to see how the chase for the championship turns out and I’ll see you all this weekend.

GS Lawriors 0-1 (-30)
New York Frogs 0-1 (-30)
KD’s Burner 0-2 (-6)
Bobibobi 0-2 (-7)
The Bang Brothers 0-2 (-14)
There’s still a lot of time and games left to be played! Every team still has a shot at the playoffs at the moment so I’m expecting games to remain competitive as we move towards the Big Dance. Let’s move on to this week's standouts, apologies in advance if I mess up any names! I’m still learning who everyone is.
Co-Player of the Week-
Joe McDonough - Guard / Borat’s Ballerz
One of the two player’s recognized in this week's POTW goes to the crafty left hander! Joe was locked in from the tip and put his team in a winning position from the very first possession. He poured in 25 points with multiple long range threes to lead his squad to a 56-25 victory over the New York Frogs. McDonough wasn’t being selfish with the rock either, as he kept his teammates involved through organized half court sets and high paced transition dimes. Definitely looking forward to seeing what he can pull off the rest of the season!
Leo Butsugam - Guard / LeOffspring (Correct name if wrong / Confirm if right)
Clutch would be an understatement when talking about Butsugam’s performance this past Sunday. With time winding down in an absolute thriller against KD’s burner almost everyone in the gym was getting ready for overtime (including me). With the score tied at 43 and only 2.5 seconds left on the clock, the LeOffspring guard took two dribbles to the right and put up a prayer. It was answered as the buzzer sounded. The rock sunk in, nothing but net to send the entire gym into a frenzy. What a scene at PAF that earns Butsugam POTW honors! We’ll see if he can pull off some more late game heroics as the season progresses.
Other Notables-
Shray Awsati?- Guard / Island Boyz (Correct name if wrong / Confirm if right)
In an OT thriller against Bobibobi, Awsati showed up big down the stretch. While he relied on transition buckets and points in the paint while his jumper was struggling early, he heated up at the end of regulation and OT to solidify a huge win to get the Island Boyz back to .500 on the year. Down by 5 with less than 30 seconds to go, it looked like Bobibobi was ready to slam the door shut. That was until Awsati came up huge down the stretch. After hitting a huge corner three, Awsati picked up a huge steal and tied the game with a transition layup. In OT, Island Boyz were able to seal the game with a few early buckets to solidify a 42-37 win.
Jack Candido & Ry Kagen- Power Forward & Center / Justice League
While it was Jack Crevoiserat who put in some big buckets down the stretch to seal a win against The Bang Brothers, the “Twin Towers” in the middle got the shout out this week because of their dominance inside. Altering shots, grabbing both offensive and defensive rebounds, huge blocks, and overall paint dominance is an understatement for what these two did this week. Justice League played a methodical, half court game this past Sunday to secure a win against a gritty TBB team. These two are going to be tough to handle down low all season.
Game Recaps-
Justice League v The Bang Brothers - Justice League W (36-29)
Hard fought game that came down to some late game buckets. Was chippy all game long and was a tough defensive battle.
Kinda Need WZL v Shanghai Qilins - Kinda Need WZL W (36-24)
Kinda Need WZL is the epitome of team basketball. No true #1, no problem! WZL was able to play steady, team oriented hoops all game to cruise to a comfortable 12 point W.
Borat’s Ballerz v New York Frogs - Borat’s Ballerz W (56-25)
It was the Joe McDonough show as mentioned above but his teammates carried plenty of weight themselves. Bharat Malhotra and Shreyes Inamdar both contributed heavily to the team's big blowout win! New York Frogs will look to capitalize on their huge second half improvements.
Island Boyz v Bobibobi - Island Boyz W (42-37 OT)
If it wasn’t for a last second buzzer beater in another matchup, this would be game of the day. Hard fought by both teams who seemed to be truly evenly matched. The Island Boyz were able to work through a three point shooting slump to muscle their way to a much needed OT victory.
Kimmel Killerz v NY Rats - Kimmel Killerz W (43-13)
The pace of play and shooting that Kimmel Killerz played with made this one seem like it was over before it started. Rahul Surana was running the show at PG and helped share the love to a well put together Kimmel squad. Hudson Willett showed off some range as the Kimmel Killerz cruise to a W. The NY Rats will look to bounce back in their next outing and leave this game in the rearview mirror.
LeOffspring v KD’s Burner - LeOffspring W (46-43) GAME OF THE DAY
What a thriller and great effort from both sides. Buzzer beater 3 to send it home in the final seconds to lift LeOffspring over a very tough KD’s Burner squad. Alexis Lew kept LeOffspring comfortable with her efforts behind the arc and Sebastian Carillo operated as the general for the team. KD’s Burner might be 0-2 but I can’t count them out on making a playoff run!
Dior Defenders v The Bundle of Swish - Dior Defenders W (21-0 via forfeit)
Only forfeit of the day pushes Dior Defenders to 2-0 on the season.
4. Commissioners Notes-
It was an action packed week that I was happy to be on site for! There have only been two forfeits all season thus far which is something that I’m very happy about. More improvements will continue to be added to the league as the season progresses and I think that we’re definitely trending in the right direction. I’m definitely going to make an effort to continue to be on site weekly so I can continue to pump out these wrap ups weekly. If anyone has any photos or videos please send them my way!
Finally, I’m attaching a link to our campus recreation tiktok account. We posted our first highlight reel from the Palladium league so you should all check it out! Looking to continue getting those out. Signing off for this week…

Spring 2023 Season! (2 editions)
CRICKET (3/22/24)
Cricket week 5 wrapup report:
The first month of cricket produced some incredible matches with some thrilling finishes!
The 5th week of cricket produced 2 games, one being a nail biter and the other a landslide victory. Following is recap of those 2 matches played out at BAF.
Match recap: Week 5:(03/04/2024)
Match 1: 6pm: Balls of Fire vs Tappu Sena
Following the coin toss, Tappu Sena's captain Aayush chose to have Balls of Fire bat first. Coming off a defeat in their last game, Balls of Fire aimed to return to their winning form in their third game of the season. Meanwhile, Tappu Sena, the reigning training champions positioned at eighth in the standings without a win, aimed for their first victory. The Balls of Fire's innings started on a shaky note with Pauras Ghag being run out due to a mix-up with Siddharth Majgaonkar right off the bat. The team faced another setback when Tapan was dismissed by a yorker from Arvind in the very first over. However, Sunny Advani and Siddharth Majgaonkar recovered the innings, forming a significant partnership. Siddharth's consecutive three sixes against Mayank turned the tide in favor of Balls of Fire, much to the delight of the spectators, reigniting their enthusiasm. Kshitij Kamat's valuable contribution later pushed the team's total to 59 runs in seven overs, setting a challenging yet attainable target. Tappu Sena began their chase with a moderate pace, scoring 20 runs in the first four overs, facing strong opposition from the Balls of Fire's leading bowlers, Sriram and Shubhankar. However, Tappu Sena's momentum shifted in the sixth over with Nikhil and Ayush's robust batting bringing 17 runs. Needing 16 runs in the final over, and with the advantage of the power over, the requirement was reduced to eight runs from six balls. Balls of Fire depended on Siddharth, their batting hero, to deliver with the ball. Demonstrating exceptional skill in the final over, Siddharth conceded only three runs, leading Balls of Fire to a victorious comeback.
Winner: Balls Of Fire
Match 2: 7pm: Bombay Bangers vs Chai Samosa
FORFEIT: WINNERS- CHAI SAMOSA
Match 3: 8pm: Naufil & Friends vs Balayya Lions
In the day's final game, the teams ranked second and third in the standings, the Balayya Lions and Naufil & Friends, went head-to-head. Naufil & Friends, batting first, suffered an early setback with the loss of Vedant, their star batsman from the previous game, in the initial over. The Balayya Lions' bowlers, led by Chirag and Sushant, delivered a tight performance, conceding only 13 runs in the first three overs. This effort was further bolstered by Aditya, who gave up a mere run while also taking a wicket. Sushant's return for a second over resulted in a maiden wicket, increasing the pressure on Naufil & Friends, whose middle order collapsed without contributing significantly. Consequently, they concluded their innings at a meager total of 17 runs over seven overs. The Balayya Lions, entering their chase with confidence, swiftly met the target, securing 17 runs in just nine balls. Sameer played a pivotal role, scoring all the required runs and leading the Lions to a decisive victory, marking their third consecutive win.
Winner: Balayya Lions
Player of the Week:
Siddharth Majgaonkar: The Balls of Fire were coming off a defeat in their last game and were down and out once again, it was a spirited all round performance from Siddharth that galvanized not only the team but also the spectators which helped his team to a sweet victory against the team which defeated them in the finals of last season. For his invaluable contribution in all 3 aspects of the game he is the PLAYER OF THE WEEK.
Award Races:(Awards to be declared at the end of the season, voted on by league officials)
Best Batsman:
Best Bowler:
Playoffs MVP:
Commissioner’s Notes:
In a short week before the break, there was still great action to be had! This was also the first forfeit of the season which is a bit disappointing but overall just a small hiccup. With just two undefeated teams remaining and a lot of matches to be played, it should be an exciting end to the season!
We have just three weeks before playoffs begin, it’s going to be a race to the finish line. Cannot wait for the playoffs!

CRICKET (3/3/24)
Cricket week 3&4 wrapup report:
The first two weeks featured incredible matchups and thrilling games! Several new teams made an unexpected impact, signaling their intent to compete for the win, not just to participate. In the last four weeks, there have been surprises, outstanding performances, and intense super overs. Now that each team has played at least two games, all participants have experienced the tournament's competitive spirit, marking the start of the serious competition!
Match recap: Week 3:( 2/19/2024)
Match 1: 6pm: AP Boys vs Tappu Sena
Following an unbeaten season, the reigning champions Tappu Sena came into this match seeking redemption after a loss in their season opener, facing a determined AP Boys team. Despite a strong performance in their first match, AP Boys had failed to secure a win. Both teams were eager to claim their initial victory of the season and add 3 points to their score. Winning the toss, Tappu Sena opted to field and managed to limit AP Boys to just 26 runs, with notable performances from Arvind, who delivered a spell of 3 overs for 16 runs without taking a wicket, and Aayush, who bowled 2 overs for just 4 runs. Poor coordination among AP Boys' batsmen resulted in all their wickets falling to run-outs. On the defensive side, AP Boys showed excellent teamwork, highlighted by the comeback of their star bowler Suvir, who impressed with a spell of 3 overs, 2 wickets, and only 8 runs allowed. He received solid support from Aditya and Vir, who effectively bowled the power over. However, Tappu Sena also struggled with communication, leading to 3 run-out dismissals. Needing 5 runs in the final over, Ayush maintained composure and only allowed 3 runs, securing AP Boys' first win of the tournament.
Winner: AP Boys
Match 2: 7pm: Courant Super Kings vs Chai Samosa
Once again, it was a fresh contest between the newcomers Chai Samosa and the previous year's quarter-finalists, Courant Super Kings. Both teams, having faced defeats in their opening matches, were determined to secure a win. The Courant Super Kings began strongly with their bowling attack, as Rushabh and Aman allowed only 3 runs in the first 2 overs while taking 3 wickets, applying significant pressure on Chai Samosa. With little support from his teammates, Chai Samosa’s captain Baleegh managed to score 14 runs, including two fours and a six, setting a modest target of 15 runs. In response, the Courant Super Kings had a shaky start, losing Avyansh in the second ball of their innings. However, Siddhanth and Eeshan stabilized the innings and led their team to a victory, earning 3 points and a win.
Winner: Courant Super Kings
Match 3: 8pm: Bombay Banger vs Balayya Lions
Following a heavy loss in their first game, Bombay Bangers were looking to improve their performance in this encounter against the strong Balayya Lions. The newcomers faced a challenging start when batting but managed to recover thanks to significant innings from Yashish, who scored 15 runs, and Aryan, who added 7 runs. Sushant initiated the bowling attack with precise lengths, receiving excellent support from Aditya, who earned a wicket due to his fast pace. Ruthvik and Hari also contributed by bowling cost-effective overs, limiting the Bombay Bangers to a mere 26 runs in their 7 overs. In response, the Balayya Lions adopted a cautious batting approach, accumulating runs through singles and doubles to reach the target with 5 balls remaining. Ruthvik stood out by hitting 2 fours in a game that saw few boundaries, contributing significantly to the Lions' victory.
Winner: Balayya Lions
Match recap: Week 4:( 2/25/2024)
Match 1: 6pm: Balls of Fire vs Naufil & Friends
In a match between last season's runners-up, Balls of Fire, and an invigorated Naufil & Friends team, both teams entered the game with victories in their opening matches of the season, brimming with confidence. Naufil & Friends, winning the toss, chose to field, a decision that proved pivotal in their eventual victory. Balls of Fire faced early setbacks, losing their openers Siddharth and Tapan in the second over to Aryan's bowling. Aryan continued his impressive performance by taking out key players Pauras and Kshitij in his return. Aadit deserves a special mention for his remarkable delivery that bowled out the left-handed batsman, leaving both the batter and spectators in awe. Despite a challenging start, Balls of Fire managed to post a total of 35 runs, thanks to a productive power over. In their chase, Naufil & Friends required a careful approach to overcome the modest target. Despite an early loss of Naufil, Vedant and Abhishek showcased exceptional batting, scoring 15 and 18 runs respectively, steering their team to yet another win in the tournament.
Winner: Naufil & Friends
Match 2: 7pm: Cricket Mavericks vs Courant Super Kings
Riding the wave of two consecutive victories, the Cricket Mavs, who were leading the table, were aiming to secure a third consecutive win. Meanwhile, the Courant Super Kings, fresh from a victory, were seeking to build momentum with another win. The Cricket Mavs, batting first, received a strong start from their captain and opener Aman, along with Vibhor. Thanks to significant contributions from the middle order, the Mavs set a respectable target of 45 runs. When the Super Kings took their turn at bat, they faced formidable bowling from Aman, with Apaar providing excellent support and earning two wickets. This outstanding bowling performance restricted Courant to just 21 runs in their chase, highlighting the Mavs' exceptional skill with the ball.
Winner: Cricket Mavericks
Match 3: 8pm: The Falcons vs AP Boys ( Game of the Day)
Entering the fourth week, both the Falcons and AP Boys had experienced a mix of outcomes, each with a victory and a defeat. This game was anticipated to be closely contested, as both teams are recognized for their resilience. Batting first, AP Boys managed to put up a modest total of 29 runs, thanks in part to the Falcons' bowlers who performed well, even though one was called out for illegal bowling action. The Falcons got off to a strong start in their chase, with Azaz leading the charge with 22 runs from power hitting in the opening over. The decision to delay bringing Suvir into the bowling lineup raised eyebrows, but when he did bowl in the second over, he proved his worth by allowing just one run. Vir then bowled a tight over, taking the crucial wicket of Zain and conceding five runs. Suvir maintained pressure with two significant wickets, tipping the match slightly in AP Boys' favor. However, the Falcons were still in a good position, needing only one run to win with three overs left. Vir stepped up again, claiming the last wicket, bringing the match to a tie and leading to the season's first super over.
In the super over, the Falcons managed to score 10 runs against Suvir, setting a target that seemed defendable with Azaz to bowl. However, AP Boys, riding the momentum shift, chased down the required 10 runs in just three balls, securing a thrilling victory and earning three points.
Winner: AP Boys
PLAYER FOR THE WEEKS 3 & 4:
Starting week 3 on the back of a defeat, AP Boys were eager for a turnaround, strengthened by the addition of Suvir to their starting lineup. In their match against Tappu Sena, Suvir played a crucial role by scoring 13 runs at a time when his teammates were finding it hard to perform. His prowess wasn't just limited to batting; he also took 2 crucial wickets that disrupted Tappu Sena's batting lineup. Continuing his commendable performance into the following week, he claimed another 2 wickets against The Falcons and delivered a standout performance by bowling in the pressure-packed super over. For his significant contributions in both matches, Suvir is named our Player of the Week for weeks 3 and 4, thanks to his pivotal role in AP Boys' success.

Commissioner’s Notes:
It’s been a phenomenal start to the season! These wrap up reports will be sent out every few weeks to recap all matches and highlight notable performances. I was able to get to BAF for the first time this semester last night and had a blast as always! I want to remind everyone to respect my staff out there on site as well as limiting forfeits as we’ve only had one this season.
I’ve talked to some people to mention that I’m striving to get our championship game broadcasted on NYUTV like this. Let’s keep it rolling and finish the season strong! Signing off…

Match Previews
Rather than reviewing/recapping the week 2 matchups, we’ll be taking a look at the crucial Week 3 matchups that will shape our KO bracket!
Group A:
#4 The Gentlemen v #18 Football Team etc: With an undefeated season on the line for The Gentlemen and a Knockout round berth on the line for Football Team etc, we should have a good one on our hands! For The Gentlemen, it’s been as flawless a start to the season as you could imagine. Edwin Gutierrez has led the way for the squad and is currently second in the league in total goals with 10. They currently have a stranglehold on Group A and even with a loss, they still can clinch the group. The Gentlemen also lead the entire league in goal differential with a whopping +16 currently on their resume. On the flip side of the pitch, Football Team etc is basically looking at a win or go home match. After a huge victory over FC SHH in week 1, they took a tough loss at the hands of Tekkerz Squad last week. Currently in the second slot, they control their own destiny with a win. We’ll see who wants it more bright and early on Friday!
#25 FC SHH v #16 Tekkerz Squad: On the other side of the pond, it’s a crucial matchup for Tekkerz Squad. They need to win if they want a shot at the KO round! They have the cards in their favor as the team they’re tied with in the standings is preparing to play a killer Gentlemen team. Zach Aidja has played a big part on the offensive side of the pitch for their team and netted 4 big goals in a huge win last week. Abdulrahman Alatabchi also worked his way in the GK of the tournament conversation with an impressive outing last week as well. For FC SHH, there’s still a glimmer of hope to advance! With a win by a large margin AND a Football Team etc loss by a large margin - they could sneak their way in!
Group B:
#14 Gallacticos v #17 Tikki Tadka FC: WIN AND YOU’RE IN! In one of the most important matchups of the season, it will be two teams fighting for one spot. Both teams have been virtually identical in Group B play with both winning against New Yawkers United FC and losing to the Soccer Team. The emergence of Akaash Saxena is a huge plus for Tikki Tadka, as he put up an impressive 5 goals last week in the victory. For Gallacticos, captain Krithin Reddy has been a strong player all season long - consistently playing well for back to back weeks. This is going to be a crucial and tightly contested matchup with the stakes the highest they’ve been all season. I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
#7 Soccer Team v #26 New Yawkers United FC: It’s been a very solid start to the season to say the least for the Soccer Team. With two narrow victories over Tikki Tadka & Gallacticos in back to back weeks, they’ve set themselves up nicely in Group B. Between Sangmin Lee’s strong play in goal, Stefan Renkovic’s ascension into the Ballon D’or conversation, or Asaf Greenfield’s consistency on the offensive end - the Soccer Team is looking like a well rounded crew looking to handle business and move forward to the KO round. For New Yawkers United FC, they’ll be looking to play spoiler and end the season on a high note!
Group C:
#5 Up The Toon v #28 Moist: Up the Toon has been a model of consistency this season so far, with almost identical wins in week 1 and 2. Team captain Oliver Brown and Sebastien Jansen-Kollerie have been very solid in both outings and are looking to keep it rolling in the season finale. Up The Toon also got a nice additional contribution from Devin Fike in his season debut last week which helped them move to 2-0. We’ll see if they can handle business and close out the regular season as Group C winners!
#20 F-ing Maltas v #21 Empire City FC: We have yet another win or go home matchup, this time it’s in Group C! Both of these squads were rewarded with victories with team Moist falling short this season and both lost to Up The Toon by basically the same margin as well. Both teams have a lot to prove to and have flown under the radar for most of the season. The intensity should be turned all the way up for this one!
Group D:
#13 Inter Yer Nan v #2 Wafflers FC: With an undefeated season at stake, it should be a good one on the South Field next week! For Wafflers FC, they could very well be the deepest team in the league. It all starts with team captain, Kyle Chen who led them to a victory last week with 2 goals. However, Ismael Jimenez and Carlos Sanzo have also been great in back to back weeks! With Allison Cao making her season debut last week and Christian Toleno making his way into the GK of the year race, Wafflers FC is looking to put the exclamation point on Group D! On the other side, Inter Yer Nan is coming out hungry after a tough loss last week against the defending champs. They need a win this week to keep their knockout round dreams alive. They will rely heavily on Lanre Nzeribe to lead them to the promised land like he did in week one!
#22 IndiaFC v #12 Bolvia Si Existe: These two teams will go to show you how much things can change from season to season in IM’s! Both of these teams faced off in the 9v9 semifinals this past Fall, with Bolivia winning and going on to win the championship. However, this season it’s been a different tale of the tape. For Bolivia, they had a huge bounce back win last week after a shocking loss in week one. They’re looking to secure their spot in the Knockout Round with a win (and some help). The squad has great chemistry as a whole with key pieces all over the pitch like Inti Robinson, Jorge Tubilla, and Felipe Samper. On the other side, IndiaFC is looking to cash in on a slim opportunity for the Knockout Round. With a big margin win and an Inter Yer Nan loss, they can find themselves in a good spot in Group D! We’ll see how this one plays out between two of NYU Intramurals most decorated teams!!
Group E:
MATCHUP OF THE WEEK!
#6 Sagball v #8 Get to Know AD: It’s rare that you get two undefeated teams in the same group this late in the season but that’s the case in Group E! We have a battle of top 10 teams with the Group Title on the line. Both teams have looked very strong this semester and it should be a knockout round-like atmosphere for the matchup. For Sagball, their core of Mateo Rufo, Nico Gomez, and co have proved to be competitive no matter what the setting is. On the flip side, Mahmoud Hafez & Ahmad Odeh both looked great in their season debuts last week. We are in for a real treat with this matchup and what’s at stake easily earned it “Matchup of the Week!”
#19 Al Halal Guys FC v #27 Madrid: While both of these teams are technically eliminated from Knockout Round contention, it should still be a fun matchup! Al Halal Guys FC has had some horrible luck this season, losing both of their matchups by one goal. Both of these squads will be looking to finish the season on a high note before Outdoor Soccer!
Group F:
#3 Munch FC v #11 Massive Eriksen: If Massive Eriksen didn’t slip up last week, this would without a doubt be the matchup of the week! Both of these teams are absolutely loaded with talent and the stakes are equally high. For Munch FC, they’re looking to cap off an undefeated season with a statement win over a top ranked squad. Noah LaPoint continues to shine as he dropped in 4 goals last week to add to his season total. The former Spring champions are complete from top to bottom and are motivated to get back to championship form after slipping up during 9v9’s! For Massive Eriksen, it was a shocking loss last week against Allow It that makes this matchup so much more important. They will need a win OR an Allow It loss in order to advance to the KO’s! They’ll be relying heavily on Jafi Alexis and Brandon Hylton as they’ve done from semester to semester. Can’t wait to see how this one plays out!
#23 Finkel FC v #10 Allow It: It’s been a disappointing season for Finkel FC after appearing in the championship last semester. While it’s not impossible to still advance to the KO round, they will need help. For Allow It, they secured a huge victory last week over Massive Eriksen. Jahan Marckx has been the anchor for Allow It, logging over 10 saves in goal last week and catapulting himself to the top of the GK of the year race. On the offensive side of the pitch, AJ Rodriguez has stepped up in a big way to provide a much needed boost. He netted in a hat trick in a crucial win last week! With both teams needing a win to get in, we’ll see who wants in more!
Group G:
#24 NYU (Not Your Uncle) v #11 Slide Into Your CDM’s: It’s been a tale of two weeks for Slide Into Your CDM’s. In their first matchup, they cruised to an opening season W but in week 2 they looked like a completely different team in a loss to Turkgucu NYC. After an amazing Futsal run in the Fall, we’ll see if they can work their way back into the KO Round! For NYU (Not Your Uncle), they still have a chance to make the KO round but they’ll need to win big and get some help on the other side of the Nile!
#1 Turkgucu NYC v #15 Jewventus: The addition of Arkan Tahsildaroglu to Turkgucu NYC has taken them to new heights! The Ballon D’or favorite has led the squad to a commanding lead in Group G through two weeks. Captain Ant Deniz has been a phenomenal running mate for Tahsildaroglu, netting a hat trick himself last week. Turkgucu NYC looks like the team to beat and will try to close out to clinch the #1 seed this week! For Jewventus, they’re looking to clinch a spot of their own in the KO Round. After a huge bounce back win last week, they need a win OR a Slide Into Your CDM’s loss by a bigger margin in order to advance. Team Captain Caleb Ashes has been strong, especially last week and Sterling Honarkar has been very solid as well. With so many moving parts left in this group, it’s going to be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

Commissioner’s Note
Entering our final week of group play, there are still so many moving parts to determine virtually every group. Almost every team still has an avenue to make the Knockout Round no matter how slim it might be! The games this week should be extremely exciting (and intense) so I want to remind everyone of their conduct on site. If anyone isn’t abiding by our guidelines, suspensions will be administered for the KO Round if necessary. Additionally, I wanted to update everyone on the Knockout Round situation. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get an additional permit date for it so we will remain a one day tournament! The bracket will be sent out at the conclusion of this week's matches. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE AND I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!

5v5 Indoor Soccer Wrap Up Report - Week One (02/08/24)
It was an exciting week one! This wrap up report will include game recaps, power rankings, standings, and more. These will be sent out at the conclusion of every week. It’s looking like it’s going to be another competitive season and I’m looking forward to seeing how it pans out!
Power Rankings (Does not affect final seedings or group standings - purely eye test rankings)
(1st Edition after every team plays 2 games!)
Match Recaps(2/2)
Group A:
Football Team ETC (10) v FC SHH (3): In one of the two early slot matches, it was Football Team ETC edging out FC SHH. Sam Henderson did a little bit of everything for his club, starting out as Goalie to set the tone, then moving onto the pitch in the later half of the game. He netted one goal while out there. Alex Flores was also phenomenal, netting 6 goals! It was a strong showing overall on the offensive and defensive end for Football Team ETC. They’ll look to keep it rolling next week against Tekkerz Squad!
The Gentlemen (14) v Tekkerz Squad (5): On the other side of the pond, it was The Gentlemen putting up the second most goals of the day out of any team. The squad looked cohesive as a unit and were led by Edwin Gutierrez. Gutierrez put on a show as he scored 8 goals which puts him second in the Golden Boot race in this early season. The Gentlemen take an early lead in Group A with a date against FC SHH next week!
Group B:
Gallacticos (13) v New Yawkers FC (6): It was a dynamic duo that led the way for Gallacticos in their opener last week. Team Captain Krithin Venkata and Jeetesh Gowder combined for 10 total goals out of the teams 13 to lead their squad to a victory over New Yawkers FC. Gallacticos positioned themselves nicely in Group B, jumping in the driver's seat with points & goal differential! They have a huge matchup with the Soccer Team this week for control of the group.
Soccer Team (8) v Tikki Tadka FC (5): In one of the closer matchups of the day, it was the Soccer Team starting off the season with a victory over Tikki Tadka FC. Sangmin Lee was nothing short of spectacular in goal for the Soccer Team, earning the nickname of “brick wall” by spectators. Lee lived up to that nickname all match as he made save after save to keep his squad in front. In a league filled with high power scoring, it’s refreshing to see a goalie shut it down like that. On the offensive side of the ball, it was Stefan Rankovic leading the way with a hat trick for the Soccer Team which turned out to be the difference between a win and a draw. We’re in for a real treat this Friday with the Soccer Team squaring off with Gallacticos!
Group C:
Up The Toon (10) v Empire City FC (5): It was a real team effort from Oliver Brown and company in their opener! They had three different players score 2 or more goals which lead Up The Toon to a true team W. Devin Fike looked very strong with the ball and contributed 4 goals to lead the way while Marius Mahshi contributed a hat trick himself! Sebastien Jansen-Kollerie did his part as well, putting in 2 goals. Up The Toon is looking like one of the most well rounded teams in the group and are set to face the F-ing Maltas this week.
F-ing Maltas (5) v Moist (0): Moist forfeit (lateness) - Moist won Friendly 5-1
F-ing Maltas should send a thank you letter to the MTA for the free win this week! Moist unfortunately showed up too late to the match and received the forfeit loss on the day. However, in the friendly match that ensued after the forfeit, Moist showed that they still can compete for a group title. They won the friendly match 5-1 and looked extremely polished on both ends. If Moist can get their travel accommodations down pat, they still have a clear path to the Knockout Rounds. For F-ing Maltas, they’re looking to keep it rolling this upcoming week and prove that they deserve that 1-0!
Group D:
Wafflers FC (9) v Bolivia Si Existe (2): In one of the shockers of the day, it was Wafflers FC winning convincingly over the defending champs. After winning the 9v9 championship last semester, expectations were at an all time high for the Bolivia squad. However, Wafflers FC put those speculations aside to cruise to a 7 goal deficit win. Carlos Sanzo and Ismael Jimenez both put up hat tricks respectively while Timothy Sucher put in 2 himself. Wafflers FC is looking like one of the teams to beat this season! Bolivia is hoping to get back to championship form with a matchup against Inter Yer Nan this week.
Inter Yer Nan (12) v India FC (6): In the other Group D matchup, it was another shocker. India FC, who went to the final four last semester lost to Inter Yer Nan after a late run by IYN! Lanre Nzeribe was absolutely spectacular in this match, putting up 7 goals total. He burst on the scene as a strong candidate for the Ballon D’or and is already near the top of the leaderboards for the Golden Boot. Allen Liu was also very strong in goal for Inter Yer Nan and provided a nice balance with their elite offensive attack. We’ll see if they can keep rolling this week!G
Group E:
Sagball (13) v Madrid (3): Sagball is back with the same squad from 9v9s! Their big three of Mateo Rufo, Nico Avila, and Captain/GK Nicholas Sagastume is one of the most formidable in the league. Mateo and Nico combined for 7 goals in limited action on the day to help Sagball cruise to a big season opener win. They’ll look to widen their lead in Group E next week against Al Halal Guys FC!
Get to Know AD (6) v Al Halal Guys FC (5): Arguably the game of the day, this one was a thriller to the very end! Ahmad Odeh led the way for Get to Know AD with a hat trick and team Captain Mahmoud Hafez added 2 more goals. The intensity was high in this matchup with momentum swinging back and forth the entire way. Both teams look like they have enough to advance to the Knockout Round but it’s going to be a closely contested group from top to bottom.
Group F:
Massive Eriksen (10) v Finkel FC (1): It was another 9v9 top team going down this past week! Finkel FC, who went to the 9v9 final last season - lost in convincing fashion to Massive Eriksen. However, there’s no shame in losing to a team like Massive Eriksen. They could very well be the most talented team in the league led by Jafi Alexis, Brandon Hylton, Sean O’Bradaigh, and Videep Vemulapalli. Sean and Jafi combined for 8 total goals in this matchup and are looking to finally secure a Indoor Championship for themselves. Finkel FC will look to get back into form this week!
Munch FC (6) v Allow It (2): You thought they were feelin you? The team known as Munch FC jumped back into championship form with a season opening victory over Allow It. The Spring 23 Outdoor Champs are hoping to reclaim that title this season and are on the right track. Noah LaPoint and Arman Darbar are two longtime members of the squad but the star of the show last week was Jack Dempsey. Dempsey put up a hat trick to lead Munch FC to an early season W!
Group G:
Slide Into Your CDM’s (12) v Jewventus (6): After an appearance in the futsal championship last semester, Slide Into Your CDM’s is back on the hunt for a championship. Niccolo Bongiorno put up a ridiculous 7 goals to lead the way! Thomas Kwon and Nil Belbase were also both extremely strong contributors as well. Slide Into Your CDM’s has a huge matchup against Turkgucu NYC next week for control of Group G.
Turkgucu NYC (15) v NYU (Not Your Uncle) (5): It was the Arkan Tahsildaroglu show last week. He put up an effortless 9 goals en route to a mercy rule victory over NYU! Arkan solidified himself as the front runner for the Ballon D’or award at the end of the season and has a well rounded Turkgucu NYC squad looking legit. Captain Ant Deniz is also a key contributor for the Turks and strong team chemistry is a driving force for them. Slide Into Your CDM’s v Turkgucu NYC this week is going to be the most anticipated matchup we have!

Commissioner’s Note
It was a great kick off week at Chelsea Piers! I was really happy with how the first day ran overall and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the group stage pans out. I want to put in a reminder about respecting officials and other teams, fighting will not be tolerated and will be met with disciplinary action from the University. We didn’t have an issue with that last week at all but I just wanted to repeat that for everyone. Additionally, I’m hoping we don’t have any more issues with lateness as everyone knows exactly where the facility is now and how long it takes to arrive. I’m really enjoying the action on site!
I apologize in advance if I messed up anyone’s name in this wrap up, I’ve still been trying to put names to faces on site. If you see me out on site - come up and say hello! I always like hearing suggestions, concerns, and how you all are doing in general.
Very much looking forward to seeing how everything plays out these next two weeks! Signing off…

Fall 9v9 Soccer Wrap Up Report - 2nd Edition (11/3/24)
All,
With our league entering the Quarterfinals, this wrap up report is going to be dedicated to the upcoming matchups rather than the previous ones from the round of 32 & 16. In a normal season, I would’ve had these out weekly during group stages. However, because of all the changes this semester via inclement weather - I’ve only been able to get one of them out (here).
In my final report of the season, I’ll do a final power rankings with awards and everything else. This one will just be pertaining to the upcoming matchups.
MATCH PREVIEWS:
India v Benchwarmers 3.0-
What a season it’s been for Team India! After cruising to three straight victories to start the year, they had their toughest test last week against Up The Toon. In a closely contested matchup they were able to squeak out a 1-0 victory in order to secure their place in the quarter finals this week. The team has some of the best chemistry in the league which has helped them especially on the defensive side of the pitch. They have only conceited one goal all Knockout Round and have had strong play from various players. Jalen Holly leads the charge on the offensive side of the ball and is looking for another stand out week. Govind Nair, Rajat Kirloskar, Dazan Fernandes, Shaun Matthews, and the rest of the squad are all looking to build on last week's performance! On the flip side, the Benchwarmers had a successful season as well. They were able to put together a 4-2 victory over a red hot Sagball squad last week and are looking to continue playing spoiler this week. Stephen Michael leads the charge for 3.0 with Victor Bouret and Jeffrey Weng. After a nailbiter vs Crossbar in the Round of 32 to go along with last week's victory, it’s looking like they’re starting to put all the pieces together. It should be a good one!
Bolivia Si Existe v Al Ettifaq:
This is by far my most anticipated matchup of the day. Two loaded rosters with the stakes being the highest it’s been all season. For Bolivia, it’s been a perfect season. After cruising through their group play it’s been much more tightly contested in the knockout round. They won 4-1 over The Gentlemen in the Round of 32 but had a scare last week against Los Pibes Szn 2. In that match, they were able to squeak out a victory during penalty kicks after some phenomenal plays from their keeper. Jose Avelar leads the charge for Bolivia with no shortage of talent on the roster with others like Felipe Samper, Inti Robinson, and more. We’ll see what they put together in their hardest test of the season! For Al Ettifaq, they were able to pull out a 2-0 victory last week over LUV DATT FC. This was another stepping stone after winning their round of 32 game against She Was Only IX in nail biting fashion. The team has talent all around the pitch with Jafi Alexis, Eren Karaburn, and Brandon Hylton. As the season has progressed, they’ve only gotten stronger with each match. This matchup is going to position the winner as one of the favorites to win it all. Very excited to see how it plays out!
F-ing Maltas v FC SLAY:
The F-ing Maltas are on quite the special run right now. After a convincing victory in the round of 32 against Messi Top, they were slated for a rematch against the defending champs Munch FC. The Maltas were out to show that their early season victory was no fluke. In an absolute battle with no goals scored on either side in regulation time, they were able to pull it out during penalties 6-5. They’re looking to continue their run over a scrappy FC SLAY team. FC Slay had a convincing 4-1 victory over Jewventus last week after a solid R32 win. They defeated Dribbler’s FC 1-0 in that matchup They’ve flown under the radar for much of the season but are looking to make some noise with a statement victory over the Maltas!
Finkel FC v STERN FC:
A very underrated matchup for today’s late slot game! Finkel FC won a nailbiter against an undefeated Slide into your CDM’s squad. They were able to win in yet another penalty kick matchup of the day! With a clutch save by their goalkeeper in elimination time, they were able to advance to this week. Toby Hoegfeldt, Ismael Jimenez, and company look to keep it rolling this week! For Stern, they had a double header last week and pulled out both games. With the nicest kits in the league, they showed out in style! The team was able to keep their energy up by cruising to a 5-0 victory in their first game. It came in handy as in their second match they had a tight victory of 2-1! Oliver White and Ras Das lead the charge for the Sternies who are pushing to get to the semifinals.
Looking forward to this week!!!!!!

Match Recaps(10/13)
Group A:
India v Sagball: It was a tightly contested match from the very beginning with Team India setting the tone on the defensive side of the pitch. Jalen Holley provided a huge boost to the team in his debut and netted two crucial goals - one in each half! The talented Sagball roster will look to bounce back and clinch a spot in the Knockout Rounds with a very important matchup against #16 Crossbar Always on 10/27.
Crossbar Always v WZL: Crossbar always was finally able to get their first match of the season in and they didn’t disappoint. The team netted 5 goals en route to a 5-2 victory over the WZL boys. WZL admittedly participated this season for fun and it would be hard to argue that they brought an insane amount of positive energy to the early slate this semester! Crossbar Always will have a very telling back to back stretch where they’ll face #3 India and #14 Sagball.
Group B:
Bolivia Si Existe v Turkgucu NYC: In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the day it was Bolivia winning 4-1 over a loaded Turkgucu squad. Both teams have been extremely successful in every soccer league that I’ve had since I’ve been here at NYU (January 2023). It was a tall task for Turkgucu for their first game of the season and they played hard until the very end. Bolivia’s chemistry and cohesiveness proved to be too much as they claimed their second win of the season and the #1 spot in this week's power rankings. Jose Avelar and company have a nice rhythm going into their final match against The Gentlemen! It’s expected for Turkgucu to bounce back but we’ll see what happens in their final two matches!
The Gentlemen v Zeta Psi: Zeta Psi Forfeit - will be on IM’s account record.
Group C:
Up The Toon v WidadFC_WAB: Oliver Brown and Company pulled out a very closely contested matchup with a 2-0 victory over a gritty WidadFC team. With the victory, Up the Toon will be moving on to the K.O Round! We’ll see if they can win their upcoming matchup to secure an undefeated season and a higher seed. WidadFC will play a win or go home match against a tough Los Pibes SZN 2 crew. Both teams have been nearly identical this season so we’ll see how it plays out!
Los Pibes SZN 2 v Soccer FC: Soccer FC Forfeit - Was communicated
Group D:
Munch FC v Messi Top: After a shocking week one loss to The F-ing Maltas, many questioned if the Munch FC squad still had what it took to repeat a championship this semester. They silenced all of those questions with a huge 7-0 win over Messi Top. Arman Darbar and Noah LaPoint were back to business as Munch FC tightened up the ship in Week 2. Max Astrachan and Messi Top will have a tall task ahead of them against #2 F-ing Maltas and #21 Al Ettifaq to make a push for the KO Round. If they can tighten up some loose screws, they’ll have a shot!
GAME OF THE DAY
Al Ettifaq v The Ball Busters: The Game of the Day was a tale of two halves! It was the Ball Busters jumping out to the quick start 2-0 and Al Ettifaq making a late push to tie it up. Jafi Alexis and Eren Karaburun were relentless on the attack for Al Ettifaq, putting pressure on The Ball Busters defense all match long. This spurred some opportunities for The Ball Busters as they were able to conjure up some impressive counter attacks! Brandon Hylton and Videep Vemulapalli proved formidable for the Al Ettifaq defense. On the flip side, Matias Aristizabal and Andrew Miao (?) were imperative for The Ball Busters as well. The Ball Busters will look to take down the defending Champs next week while Al Ettifaq will have a tough back to back task on 10/27!
Group E:
Uhall v Benchwarmers 3.0: UHALL FORFEIT
Hide Ya Mrs vs Assassin’s Creed: Hide Ya Mrs came out swinging this week in a huge 7-1 victory over Assassin’s Creed. Kobe Naftali and company were very impressive in a decisive must win victory. They’ll face off against The Benchwarmers 3.0 next week to decide who wins Group E!
Group F:
Pique Blinders v Metrotech08 FC: If Al Ettifaq v The Ball Busters wasn’t such a thriller, this would without a doubt be the game of the week! It was a battle from start to finish between these two teams en route to a 2-2 draw. Both teams will carry 1 point into their final match of the season where they’ll make a push for the KO rounds! In a group of 6 - they’ll both be pushing for that 3rd spot with #6 She was only IX and #11 Karthicc FC controlling the top of Group F.
She Was Only IX v Unido FC: It was the #6 team in our power rankings pulling out a 5-2 victory over Unido FC this past Friday. Ali Rashid, Giuseppe Borriello, and most importantly James Scanlon played a big part in securing the victory. WanSeok Hong played his part for Unido FC as well. We’ll see where both teams end up in our final standings!
Group G:
Stern FC v GN United: GN UNITED FORFEIT - Attached to IM’s Account Record
Dribblers FC v FC-Slay: Enzo Ramus and Co were able to tough out a 4-1 victory over FC-Slay! A lot of things can still happen in Group G so these last two weeks are going to be huge. For FC Slay it was Adrian Hui standing out for the team. Dribblers FC will be looking to secure an undefeated season next week!
Group H:
UC Sampdoria v Scrubs: It was over…until it wasn’t! With time winding down in the second half, UC Sampdoria was up 2-0 and seemed to have a firm grip on the game. Karenna Groff and Lucas Mavromatis (?) led the late game push that ended up tying the game at 2 as time expired! Both teams will need to win in their final match in order to have a chance to move forward.
Slide Into Your CDM’s v Spectrum Strikers: Slide Into Your CDM’s made another statement this week with a dominant 8-0 victory over the Spectrum Strikers. We’ll see if they can keep carrying this momentum to the last weeks and the KO round!
Award Races(voted on by league officials at the end of szn)

Freshman of the Year:
Defensive Player of the Year:

Commissioner’s Note

Very much looking forward to seeing how everything plays out these next two weeks! Signing off…

Flag Football Week 1 Wrap Up (2/22/23)
All,
I hope you all enjoyed week 1 of flag football! It was a solid weekend filled with highlight plays and good overall competition. The standings have been uploaded on IMLeagues but I’m going to put them here as well.
Face Emoji 2-0
Haze 1-0
Tren Abusers 1-0
Team India 1-1
Pain and Pa$$ion 1-1
WNYU Sports 0-1
DPT 0-1
Football Football 0-1
The Rizzards of Oz 0-1
There were a lot of standouts this week! Apologies if I mess up/mix up some names on the weekly notable list, I’m still learning everyone's names.
Co-Player of the Week-
Jacob Bergstein - QB of Haze
Gary Kinyanjui- WR of Haze
Jacob and Gary put on an absolute show on Saturday night. With only 6 people available to play, their squad had the odds stacked against them against a tough Pain and Pa$$ion squad. After a tough, back and forth first half, the game was tied at 12 at halftime. In the second half Haze erupted for 28 points and won the game 40-20 shorthanded! Jacob and Gary were absolutely electric, connecting for multiple touchdowns with the game getting capped off with a Gary pick-6 from goal line to goal line. Definitely excited to see what this team has in store with a full squad on the turf!
Other Notables-
David Kahane- QB of “Face Emoji”
Team Face Emoji brought the swagger Week 1 led by their QB and rock solid defense. In their two double digit wins, the team averaged 30 PPG through their diverse air raid. David found multiple different receivers in each game for touchdowns and allowed his playmakers to do their thing in open space. “Face Emoji” spread the love around and used their long list of targets to their advantage. We’ll see if they can lock up an undefeated regular season next weekend!
Louie Sabio- WR of Team India
Team India got off to a quick start in their opening game against The Rizzards of Oz, putting up 37 points in the outing. However, in game 2 they were short handed and needed someone to step up to shoulder the workload. With the team missing key playmakers, Louie did everything in his power to keep the ship afloat. Facing double coverage the entire game against “Face Emoji”, Louie still found the endzone and put together multiple highlight catches on top of that. A full squad Team India will be dangerous if they can find their way into the playoffs.
Arthur Yoon- QB of Tren Abusers
Tren Abusers brought a gritty approach to the turf on Sunday for their matchup against WNYU Sports. While the team's defense was stifling in the red zone all game, the general Arthur Yoon was a huge reason they were successful. Arthur didn’t do anything flashy but had his troops in line all night for a methodical approach to the game. Whether it was calling an audible at the line or delivering two huge touchdown passes, he was ready for it all. Some would call him a game manager but Arthur is the backbone to a hard-nosed Tren Abusers squad!
Commissioners Notes-
I think every game was clean and well played this past weekend. Just want to put it out there that I won’t be issuing warnings to teams who jump at the whistle instead of their QB’s cadence, it will now be an automatic offsides call. I was a bit more lenient with some rules as teams were still adjusting in week 1 but I’m looking to tighten things up a little bit more before playoffs kick off. Additionally, I want to remind everyone that this is a no contact league! Some people were still confused about that so wanted to put that back out there.
Stay on the lookout for updates to the schedule next weekend and continue arriving on time. The punctuality this league has had thus far has been great! If anyone has any questions or needs, you have my contact info. I’ll see everyone this weekend.

Flag Football Week 2 Wrap Up (2/29/23)
All,
Week 2 was a good one with zero forfeits and three separate overtime games! I appreciate everyone being flexible with the scheduling and patient with me throughout the regular season. I wish the regular season could’ve been longer but I’ll be touching on that in the final wrap up after playoffs this weekend. The final regular season standings are as follows…
Haze 3-0 (+55)
Face Emoji 2-1 (+31)
WNYU Sports 2-1 (0)
DPT 2-1 (-8)
Pain and Pa$$ion 2-2 (-14)
Team India 1-2 (+3)
Tren Abusers 1-2 (+2)
The Rizzards of Oz 1-2 (-48)
Football Football 0-3 (-21 / 3F)
Our top four teams will play this weekend in our semifinals and championship! I’ll be sending out the official times to team captains in the coming days. All of the members of our champion team will receive championship T-Shirts and a feature story on our website!
Again, there were a lot of standouts this week and apologies if I mix up some names.
Player of the Week-
Devin Limerick?- Safety/WR from DPT
What a weekend it was for DPT. They came in at 0-1 after a crushing week 1 loss and had to win both games for a shot at the post season. After an Overtime thriller against Tren Abusers on Saturday night (with only 6 players!) DPT had a win or go home game against Team India. Trailing 12-6 with time winding down in the second half they needed a stop before Team India slammed the door shut; Devin came through with more than that. Sitting in his free safety spot he perfectly jumped a pass in the flats and brought it all the way back for 6! After converting on the XP, DPT was able to muster up multiple stops with Devin making various key pass break-ups to secure the W.
Other Notables-
Matthew Mendoza- QB from WNYU Sports
In the game of the week, defense was something of an afterthought. It ended with a final score of 40-33 with WNYU coming out on top against Pain & Pa$$ion in a Triple OT thriller. Pain & Pa$$ion pulled off the unthinkable by tying the game as the clock expired and converting on an XP to send the game to its first OT. After a shocker like that, it’s easy for teams to fold up and throw in the towel. Matt wouldn’t let this happen to his squad though. Rallying the troops, he connected with his Tight End and multiple receivers in OT, carving up the red zone defense and leading his team to a victory that sent them to the playoffs!
Sam Rawdon- WR/CB for Haze
In a battle of undefeated teams, things got chippy. Up by one score, Haze had to get a stop against Face Emoji if they wanted to keep that zero on their record intact. Sam stepped up the plate with a huge pick-6 to seal the win for Haze. Two game sealing pick-6’s this week around the league, crazy!
Wisdom Igbokwe & Jesiah Matthews?- WR’s from Pain & Pa$$ion
Offense wasn’t the problem this season for Pain & Pa$$ion as they raked up over 90 points on the season (one of two teams to reach that milestone). Wisdom and Jesiah showed out this weekend and reeled in multiple TD catches each, followed by the griddy of course. Wisdom had two deep ball catches for two touchdowns and Jesiah had multiple key endzone trots. Had Pain and Pa$$ion been able to lock in more on the defensive side of the ball, they would’ve been trouble to deal with in the playoffs.
Commissioner’s Notes-
As I mentioned above, in my final wrap up I’ll be talking about next season and flag football opportunities moving forward. It was a great regular season and I’m looking forward to the postseason! If anyone has any photos or videos from this season please send them my way!

Flag Football Final Wrap Up (3/6/23)
All,
What a great season! I’m extremely happy with the level of commitment and the competitive matchups we had all season long. The playoffs were just as exciting as the regular season and I think that we have a great blueprint for future seasons! This is how the playoffs played out…
#1 Haze v #4 DPT - Haze W (38-32)
#2 Face Emoji v #3 WNYU Sports - Face Emoji W (33-22)
Championship- #1 Haze v #2 Face Emoji - Haze W (36-23)
Congratulations to team Haze on an undefeated season and a Spring 2023 championship! It was an incredible year for this squad top to bottom and it was fitting to see them come out on top. Congratulations to all of our other playoff teams as well who put on a good show Saturday night. Without further ado, it’s time for our season awards!
League MVP and Super Bowl MVP-
Jacob Bergstein - QB of Haze
Team Haze might’ve been loaded with talent with playmakers like Gary Kinyanjui and Jed Higdon but this team wouldn’t be where it is without Jacob Bergstein at the helm. In a perfect undefeated season, Team Haze outscored opponents by 81 total points in the regular season and playoffs. As phenomenal of a regular season it was for Jacob, he kicked it into another gear for the playoffs and superbowl. Highlight reels wouldn’t even do it justice for the show he put on in the season finale! With multiple receiving, passing, and rushing TD’s it was truly the performance of the year. Two Randy Moss like TD grabs cemented him as MVP if it wasn’t clear enough already! The best player on the best team, what a year.
Defensive Player of the Year-
Devin Limerick- Safety from DPT
Another familiar name from our previous wrap ups, Devin Limerick is your Spring 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. Devin was outstanding the entire season as team DPT’s ball hawk and in a league where points come by the plenty, it was refreshing to see someone take pride on the defensive side of the ball. The Intramural Ed Reed was like a jet from sideline to sideline swatting, picking, and deflecting passes all season long. The amount of ground covered from the speedster was truly impressive! QB’s always had to have their eyes on him when they came to the line otherwise the ball was going the other way. Great season from Devin and a well deserved award.
*Next season, Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and the Sportsmanship Award will all be implemented.*
Commissioner’s Notes-
Again, thank you to everyone for participating in this year's Flag Football Intramurals! It was enjoyable to be a part of all the action and I’m hoping we can run it back in the Fall. I’ll be emailing everyone’s team captains information about next year that they can forward to all of you. There is no guarantee that we can run this back so please grab that info from your captain’s if you would like to see this league put on again! If anyone has any photos or videos from this season, send them my way.
The official website story for our Champs and Instagram post will be going live soon so keep an eye out for it! Signing off for the last time this spring…
