Esports intramurals aim to provide a space for students to play with their friends against other NYU students in a fun, competitive environment across a variety of games, including Valorant, League, and EA FC. Students can sign up as part of a team or as a free agent.
Generally speaking, teams will play once a week in a round robin format to qualify for a playoff bracket to will determine a winner. Winners usually receive a prize, which is normally an NYU Intramural Champions t-shirt.
Esports social events refer to all other programming for the student body, including watch parties, one day tournaments, weekly 10-mans, and partnerships with other NYU clubs and external organizations. NYU Esports will list casual events in the discord server, as well as Engage.
The number of competitive teams per game varies based on commitment and student interest, although right now we have teams for Valorant, Overwatch 2, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike 2.
Mostly, yes. Each team is a little different. Check the constitutions posted on each team's page to find out more about how their team operates, and what expected ranks are for each team.
There are three team names used across all games. In order from most competitive to least competitive, the names are: Violet Legion, Violet Phantom, Violet OP. Due to popularity, Valorant currently has two extra teams, Violet Rangers and Violet Moon, a team for women and other marginalized genders.
All matriculating full-time students in good-standing within the University are eligible to participate in esports programming. Faculty, administration, staff, and alumni with active NYU Athletic facility memberships are eligible to participate in specic intramural leagues and programs as declared. Please be sure to inquire about which programs faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible to participate in. The Esports Manual has more in-depth info on eligibility.
NYU Esports reviews proposals for new competitive teams on a rolling basis. Interested students can submit the Esports Start a Team Application to the Administrative Aide for Club Sports and Esports, Philip Cavallo, at psc9354@nyu.edu.
