A recent recipient of an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University, my main areas of creative work are poetry and nonfiction — often concerning themes of place, spirituality, food, and identity, and always informed by my experiences as a queer, religious, first-generation Nigerian-American from the South. My greatest endeavor is to tell the stories I needed to hear growing up, using writing as a prism through which to view the possibilities of history and futurity. I am particularly inspired by the work of Black poets and scholars (especially queer ones!), such as Audre Lorde, Akwaeke Emezi, June Jordan, and Cole Arthur Riley; I am also endlessly inspired by my friends, family, and peers.
When I'm not reading or writing (which is rare), you can usually find me baking banana bread, watching YouTube video essays, or browsing Etsy for funky earrings.
