Welcome Lily Wichert's journalistic portfolio!
Beyond the Byline
I’m a recent graduate of New York University, where I earned degrees in Journalism and Politics. Over the past four years, I received a global education and deepened my passion for international affairs while studying abroad at NYU Madrid.
My journalistic work in New York explores how federal policy and rhetoric shape life at the local level. I’m especially fascinated by how communities respond, resist, and reimagine their futures.
I’ve reported on immigrant health care, New York City’s evolving sanctuary identity, the climate crisis, and more—blending policy analysis, historical research, and, most importantly, individual voices. My reporting is grounded in deep curiosity, a commitment to justice, and a belief in journalism’s power to challenge systems and illuminate possibility. Journalistic integrity is vital for a functioning democracy, and this commitment is more essential now than ever.
I’ve conducted extensive interviews, analyzed local and foreign policy, and covered community responses to rising anti-immigrant sentiment—all with an ethical lens and a dedication to journalistic integrity.
Outside of reporting, I’m an avid reader, runner, and cat lover. I moved to New York from Central Pennsylvania, where I first discovered my passion for journalism as an editor of my high school's student newspaper.
In the year ahead, I’m eager to continue telling stories that bridge politics and lived experience—and to begin a new professional chapter. You can view my professional experiences in depth via my LinkedIn, using the button below. Let’s connect!
