Looking for Shakespeare 2020
Welcome!
For four weeks this summer, our neurodiverse ensemble of 23 young performers, 12 graduate students, 10 production team members, as well as countless friends and family, came together for NYU Steinhardt’s annual summer program: Looking for Shakespeare.
We have worked diligently to create a pre-recorded, digitally-produced, musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s THE WINTER’S TALE.
We met online daily to analyze, embody, rehearse, and record this piece, exploring the play's relevance to our own lives in this challenging time (and sometimes, that requires TikTok).

About Looking for Shakespeare
Looking for Shakespeare is an intensive Shakespeare summer program for high school students from around the country. Now in its 22nd year, the program invites an ensemble of young actors to work with a director, production team, and NYU graduate students to mount a fully-produced Shakespeare play on the campus of NYU. Participants receive training in text analysis, movement, voice & speech and more in order to investigate how Shakespeare’s language resonates for them, within their own personal experiences.
About the Program in Educational Theatre
New York University offers the only academic program in the United States in educational theatre that leads to the MA, EdD, and PhD degrees. The program emphasizes explorations in theatre as an art form, drama education, and applied theatre, with coursework in school-based drama, teaching artistry, theatre for young audiences, play production, innovative research, new play development, performance, design, and community arts. It also provides concentrations in art-based research, dramatic literature, and aesthetic education. The program has a strong social justice agenda and produces plays year-round for audiences in an experimental studio space (the Black Box Theatre) and in the venerable Provincetown Playhouse. New York City offers opportunities for internships and extensive experience in a variety of professional settings that include private and public schools, nationally prominent theatres, including theatres for young and family audiences, hospitals, media networks, recreational and community centers, and social service agencies.
