AUDITION MATERIAL AND INSTRUCTIONS
AUDITION MATERIAL AND INSTRUCTIONS
We encourage performers to submit audition material in the following modalities: signing, speaking, and music/movement.
If you are an actor/actress, the signing/visual gestural communication (VGC) section is required, any and all additional audition materials (speaking and/or music/movement) are welcomed & encouraged.
If you are a vocal or instrumental musician SOLEY interested in playing with "the band" of the production, please email us at handlessmaiden2021@nyu.edu
Video Courtesy: For each video you submit, please transcribe or caption your video. Keep background as neat as possible. Be sure you are lighted enough that we can see you.
For the signing and speaking portion, choose a folk/fairy tale to sign, gesture or speak. As we will be exploring this story for the next few months, we are interested in your interpretation of a tale that's personally meaningful (please do not feel limited to Brother's Grimm).
Signing/VGC
If you are comfortable with American Sign Language (ASL), video record a 1 - 2 minute folk/fairy tale.
If you are a new signer or haven't learned ASL, gesture out the folk/fairy tale.
Speaking:
Submit a 1 -2 minute video telling a folk/fairy tale that is personally meaningful.
Do not simultaneous communicate (SimCom) the story.
Music/Movement:
Choose any song from the playlist linked here and record yourself singing, playing (or singing/playing simultaneously) a 1 minute cut that best displays your musicality. (Lyrics also available.)
If you would like to submit as both a singer and an instrumentalist, but would rather not play and sing at the same time, you may submit separate 1 minute videos.
You may also sing, play, or move to this conducting video of SHELTER by Finneas (note: please disregard the title screens at top). Sheet music linked here.
Choose any song from the playlist linked here and record yourself dancing/moving to the 1-minute cut that best displays your physicality. (Lyrics also available.)
