We have four main types of work in this course in Spring 2021: quick writing, blog writing, assignments and the final assignment (storymap). My rubrics follow this general rubric that I designed last year.
Rubric for quick writing:
Missing: no quick writing done within the time allotted.
Unsatisfactory: some writing provided, but does not address the prompt or provide any reflection on the prompt, perhaps below the word limit. The author does not, in turn, tag someone else from the course making a connection with their writing. This can take place inside a single quick writing or in a separate response.
Satisfactory: writing provided that offers particular line of thinking related to the course that "moves the conversation forward" or nuances a point made by others or in class. The author tags someone else from the course making a connection with their writing. Contains a screenshot or link when necessary for understanding the concept.
Excellent: particularly insightful comment that demonstrates independence of critical thinking with respect to the course material, and/or the ability to integrate the material in an original way. The author tags someone else from the course making a connection with their writing. A screenshot or link makes understanding the concept very easy.
Rubric for blog writing:
Missing: no blog done within the time allotted.
Unsatisfactory: some writing provided, but does not address the prompt or provide any reflection on the prompt, perhaps below the word limit. The author does not, in turn, connect this writing to the larger themes of the course or to the readings. Insufficient engagement with the concepts. Does not include any visuals.
Satisfactory: sufficient length of writing and some reflection on the prompt. The discussion of the assignment is good, but does not provide much critical reflection on the question at hand. May be linked to the ideas of the course or readings. Has visuals, but are perhaps not well linked to the writing.
Excellent: The blog is reflective, critical and well argued. The blog text engages with the overall themes of the course, provides more than sufficient critical engagement and links, when possible to themes of the course. The visuals are well made, providing strong evidence for the claims made in the writing.
Rubric for assignments:
Missing: no blog done within the time allotted.
Unsatisfactory: some writing provided, but does not address the prompt or provide any reflection on the prompt, perhaps below the word limit. The author does not, in turn, complete the data portion of the assignment, or does so insufficiently. The data are not provided for download and are perhaps not well structured. Insufficient engagement with the concepts. Does not include sufficient visuals.
Satisfactory: sufficient length of writing and the assignment addresses the prompt reflectively. The data are sufficiently created, presented and structured, but perhaps with flaws. The data are provided for download. The discussion of the assignment is good, but does not provide much critical reflection on the results and/or the process. Has visuals, but are perhaps not well linked to the writing.
Excellent: The assignment is reflective, critical and well argued. The data are well described and well structured, and are available for easy download. The text of the assignment engages with the overall themes of the course, provides more than sufficient critical engagement. The visuals are well made, providing strong evidence for the claims made in the writing.
Rubric for final assignment (story map plus reflection): TBA
