Hello and welcome!
My name is Grant Ng, I am graduate student in NYU's IDM program. My thesis revolves around the field of combining live 3D animation techniques, virtual production, and storytelling with therapeutic principles and coping strategies for reducing anxiety in patients. This website is part of NYU School of Dentistry and IDM. Partnered with Dr. Ron Kosinski and Dr. Amy Hurst. This website is a prototype version for using an application that will help patients who feel anxiety. The 3D videos for children, represent a test of applying live 3D animation to avatar that can engage with the anxious child a safe manner.
There is no data collection on this website. Your responses will not be recorded. There are only two questions the website will ask you, your age and what type of anxiety you are feeling. Based on your age range, if you are in the older demographic, then you will be directed to 360 video content. If you have a child or are a child that is 10 years old or younger, then you will be given a set of 3D video content.
A survey was conducted among the dental community at NYU. The feedback was positive overall in the use of having anxious children watch a 3D video before they come into the office. The 3D content contains the therapeutic principles for successful engagement. The dental community also preferred having a more realistic look to the tour. For the older crowd, the 360 videos are meant for the broader range of patients who might not respond well to the 3D video content. Both aesthetics hope to help and reduce anxiety for the patient before they come.
Please fill out the survey on your preference on the medium! The project is still ongoing and I will continue to create a novel experience for this space. Thank you.
