Formerly known as Idiom, Mosaic is the online newsletter of NYS TESOL, published in the spring and fall, with additional special editions as opportunities arise. We are reimagining Mosaic as a vibrant, multilingual, and multimodal space where research meets practice, lived experiences inform new possibilities, and community knowledge drives innovation in TESOL.
Our vision is to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity not simply as something to recognize, but as an asset to build upon and a source of knowledge, creativity, and possibility. We believe multilingual learners thrive when their full linguistic repertoires, cultural experiences, identities, and ways of making meaning are valued and mobilized in learning. We extend this commitment to the educators, researchers, teacher candidates, and language professionals who make up our community, creating space for diverse perspectives, critical conversations, creative experimentation, and shared learning.
The NYS TESOL Mosaic Newsletter provides an inclusive, multimodal platform where educators, researchers, teacher candidates, and language professionals share ideas, experiences, innovations, and reflections. Through diverse media formats including short videos, podcasts, infographics, blogs, social media storytelling, and visual essays, Mosaic celebrates the many voices, perspectives, and practices that enrich the TESOL profession.
This reimagined Mosaic is made possible through the generous technological and logistical support of Adelphi University. This partnership between NYS TESOL and a higher education institution demonstrates the possibilities of shared stewardship in advancing professional learning and English/multilingual education. Looking ahead, we hope to invite other higher education institutions to host future editions, broadening participation, strengthening collaboration, and creating new opportunities for Mosaic to grow and evolve.
Mosaic amplifies the voices of the TESOL community through a creative, accessible, and multimodal platform that inspires professional learning, collaboration, and advocacy.
