Featured Awards
Seal of Biliteracy
Awarded to a High school senior who is ELL/former ELL who earned the Seal and is accepted to college.
Outstanding High School Graduate
Awarded to a High school senior who is ELL/former ELL who exhibits outstanding community activism, school involvement, and leadership.
Full Circle Scholarship
Awarded to a College student who was/is an ELL going into teaching.
James E. Weaver Memorial Award
Awarded to an outstanding teacher candidate matriculated in a TESOL-related undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program in New York State.
Teacher Materials Grant
Awarded to a teacher to Provide funding for projects or experiences which directly enrich students’ language, academic, and cultural learning experiences.
Co-Teaching Pair of the Year
Awarded to an outstanding ENL and Classroom/Content teacher pair
Elementary ESOL Teacher of the Year
Awarded to an Outstanding P-5 ESOL teacher who motivates and encourages students as well as engages them in productive and challenging learning.
Middle School ESOL Teacher of the Year
Awarded to an Outstanding 6-8 ESOL teacher who motivates and encourages students as well as engages them in productive and challenging learning.
High School ESOL Teacher of the Year
Awarded to an Outstanding 9-12 ESOL teacher who motivates and encourages students as well as engages them in productive and challenging learning.
Adult Education ESOL Teacher of the Year
Awarded to outstanding ESOL teacher working in Adult ESL education context who motivates and encourages students as well as engages them in productive and challenging learning.
TESOL Professor of the Year
Awarded to an Outstanding TESOL teacher educator in a college or university TESOL teacher preparation program.
Administrator of the Year
Award to an outstanding P-12 administrator for ELLs at the school or district level
Marie and Richard Baecher Teacher Leadership Award
Awarded to recognize the important contribution teacher leaders make to English learner education, this award goes to an educator with at least five years of teaching experience in the field of TESOL (elementary, secondary, adult, or higher education). The nominee should demonstrate leadership beyond the classroom (at the school, district, regional level) that supports the academic and social well-being of English learners in New York state ESL and bilingual programs.
NYS TESOL Recognition Award
Awarded to to public officials (such as legislators, community activists, school board members, journalists) who have acted to further the profession of TESOL and facilitate and foster the English-language acquisition of NYS students.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Awarded to honor a member of NYS TESOL who has shown dedication to the profession of TESOL, and the advancement of English Language Learners. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who is retiring or making a transition from a long, distinguished career in the field of TESOL.
