Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival
We endeavour to encourage students to challenge themselves through joining inter-school competitions, especially in speaking. Each year, All students are encouraged to participate in different categories of competitions in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. It is hoped that students' confidence and motivation to excel in English can be boosted through such participation.
S1 students learned a poem by heart and performed it with actions, winning the first runner-up.

To give S6 student a more realistic impression of the DSE speaking exam, we invite students from other schools to come to NYSS and participate in a group oral practice. They can receive feedback from other teachers and learn how to interact with other students in the speaking exam.

The ELA Sports Festival is a great way to encourage students to use the language they are studying in the context of Sports and Healthy Living. Students design games and activities for each other, write instructions, and teach their peers and classmates how to play the games.

Our annual Halloween Party starts in the morning class teacher period. English ambassadors greet students at the gate with candy and treats, there are games during the morning class teacher period, and at break and lunchtime there are a variety of booth games to play – and win prizes.

After studying the topic of animals, students visit Kadoorie Farm to learn more about the animals there. They explore eco-conservation and sustainability. The workbooks are tailor-made for students to apply the language from their textbooks while encouraging them to ask questions and inquire further about animal welfare and conservation.
