Hannah Eustace,
Trustee Board Chair
North Yorkshire Scouts
I'm Hannah Eustace, Chair of the North Yorkshire Scouts Board of Trustees, and I'm delighted you've visited this site.
Being a Trustee is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people by supporting the volunteers who deliver Scouting across North Yorkshire. As Chair, I'm passionate about ensuring that our Board provides effective leadership, strong governance and the support needed for our charity to thrive.
I've created this site as a central place where Trustees can find the information, guidance and resources they need. Whether you're preparing for a Board meeting, looking for key governance documents, or developing your understanding of the Trustee role, I hope you'll find everything you need here.
Being a Trustee is about much more than attending Board meetings. We are an active team, working together throughout the year to shape strategy, develop and review policies, provide oversight of our finances and risks, support major projects, and help ensure that North Yorkshire Scouts continues to grow and succeed. Every Trustee brings their own skills, experience and perspective, and I encourage everyone to contribute, ask questions, and get involved in the work of the Board between meetings.
Thank you for the time, expertise and commitment you bring to this role. Your contribution is vital in helping us create a strong, well-governed charity that enables thousands of young people across North Yorkshire to enjoy the adventure of Scouting and gain skills for life.
I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to strengthen our charity and support Scouting across North Yorkshire.
Hannah Eustace,
Chair
North Yorkshire Scouts
What we are looking for
Treasurer
We are looking for a Treasurer to lead our strategic finances on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
As well as being a key Board member, our Treasurer sits on our Finance Committee which sits across all operational and strategic finance matter on behalf of both our Leadership Team and our Board of Trustee.
Our treasurer will not be regularly transacting or managing operational matters, as Rachel, our part-time finance administrator looks after our day-to-day finances. We're actually looking for a strategic thinker, who can help us plan our finances and support us to invest appropriately.
Commitment wise, our Treasurer will need to join our four - five Board meetings per year, plus our four Finance Committee Meetings per year. Most of our meetings are online, but candidates should expect to travel to our HQ in Thirsk for at least two of the meetings.
Trustees
We also have vacancies for Trustees to join the Board after some of our number have stepped down to pursue other Scouting commitments.
The time commitments required for the role will vary throughout the year, but members can expect to meet online four to five times and participate in out-of-meeting electronic decisions, as well as meeting in person at least once.
Trustee appointments are for a three year term. In line with our selection policy, extensions will be considered by the sitting Board of Trustees as and when required.
The timeline
Applications open: 3 August
Applications close: 7 September
Applications reviewed by Board of Trustees by 18 September
Annual General Meeting: 28 September
The Process
North Yorkshire Scouts is running an open selection process for appointing Trustees in line with guidance provided by The Scout Association. We are advertising our Trustee vacancies publicly to try and reach a wider range of potential applicants. If you know anyone who may be interested in supporting us in this way, please direct them to this microsite.
After applications for self-nomination are received, they will be reviewed in line with our Trustee Selection Policy.
The Board will put forward its recommendations for any new Trustee(s) to the County Scout Council at our Annual General Meeting on 28 September.
