Applicants are posted to academic courses/streams based first on the applicant’s merit, and second in the order of the applicant’s choice of courses/streams.
All applicants are first ranked in the order of their net L1R5 aggregates, considering the various bonus points for which the applicants are eligible. Those with better aggregate scores will be considered for admission.
Then, each applicant is considered for his/her choice of courses/streams in the order of preferences indicated, subject to available vacancies in the courses/streams.
In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status. If there is still a tie, say between two Singapore citizens, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted into the course first. If there is still a tie at this stage, then posting into the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity.
You are eligible for bonus points if you satisfy the following criteria.
2 Bonus points
If you are a student from Chung Cheng High School (Main) or (Yishun) and NYJC is either your (a) 1st choice, or (b) 1st and 2nd choices.
If you obtained a CCA Attainment ‘Excellent’ or Grade 'A1' or ‘A2’ from your secondary school.
If you obtained grades A1 to C6 in both your first languages (i.e. English and Higher Mother Tongue), provided you put your JC choices before any Poly/ITE choices.
If you obtained grades A1 to C6 in Malay/Chinese (Special Programme) (MSP/CSP) or Bahasa Indonesia (BI) as their third language, provided you put your JC choices before any Poly/ITE choices.
If you are accepted to offer Chinese Language Elective Programme (CLEP) in Nanyang JC.
1 Bonus point
If you obtained CCA Attainment ‘Good’ or Grades 'B3' to ‘C6’ from your secondary school.
Bonus points are limited to a maximum of 4 points without CLEP. With CLEP, the maximum bonus points is 6 points. Applicants should note that MOE does not allow students who are admitted to college through CLEP to drop out of the programme, regardless of whether they have utilised the 2 bonus points. If they wish to withdraw from CLEP, they may be asked to leave the JC.
The cut-off point for NYJC Arts and Science courses were 7 and 5 respectively in JAE 2025.
Please note that the entry criteria is determined by the JAE process each year and not set by the respective JCs. As such, the cut-off points may vary from year-to-year and the aforementioned should only be used as a guide.
To understand how student choices are prioritised, please see 'How will I be posted?'.
The cut-off point is the net aggregate (L1R5 after bonus point deductions) of the last student posted to the college.
For example, the cut-off point for NYJC Science in 2025 was 5. This means that all students who were posted to NYJC Science during last year's JAE had a net aggregate of 5 or better. This, however, did not guarantee admission to all students who obtained a net aggregate of 5. (Please see 'How will I be posted?')
After the JAE posting results are released, applicants who meet NYJC's cut-off point for 2026 but are not posted to NYJC can submit an appeal by following the instructions which will be made available on our college website.
NYJC , guided by MOE’s prevailing policies, supports students’ interest by offering flexibility in subject combination choices, within the confines of the stream through which they are posted into NYJC (i.e. a student posted through the Arts or Science stream would need to take at least 2 subjects from the respective stream at Higher 2 level). In following MOE’s policy requirement, the college also gives due consideration to each child’s interest and potential and seeks to support the child’s choice of subject combination as much as possible, subject to the resource availability (e.g. teaching manpower, time-tabling constraints).
The college offers a diverse range of subject combinations each year, including ‘hybrid subject combinations’ – where students can read up to 2 subjects from the Mathematics and Sciences as well as 2 subjects from the Arts and Humanities.
The full list of A Level Subjects offered by NYJC may be found here .
* Please note that certain subjects require applicants to sit for a diagnostic test. Please see 'What are the subjects that require a diagnostic test?'.
Subjects which are offered at NYJC but not necessarily at other colleges include H2 Art, H2 Chinese Language and Literature, H2 Computing, H2 Further Mathematics and H2 Translation (Chinese).
The full list of A Level Subjects offered by NYJC can be found here .
Students do not choose their subjects during JAE. However, they should find out if the A Level subjects they wish to read are offered and if they meet the subject requirements at the JC of their choice.
Successful applicants to NYJC will choose their subject combination within the first two days of reporting to the college after the release of the JAE posting results. More details will be given during the orientation.
The subjects that require applicants to sit for a diagnostic test are Art Elective Programme, Computing, Further Mathematics and Translation (Chinese).
The diagnostic tests for the respective subjects will be held on the first day of reporting to NYJC after the release of the JAE posting results. An announcement will be made during the subject combination talk to inform interested students.
Interested students are to prepare a portfolio which should include a range of works that best showcases their interest and ability in handling different media and craft types. The portfolio can either be the original pieces or well-documented digital images of the student's artworks. This is to be presented during the portfolio interview which will be held on Day 2 of reporting after the release of the JAE posting results.
Applicants will also have to complete a creative task (30 min) on Day 1 of reporting.
Students interested in CLEP will need to indicate their intention when submitting their online application for JAE. Only students who are eligible for the CLEP will be offered the option to enrol through the online application. To join CLEP in NYJC, applicant must select NYJC as the first choice, otherwise he/she may be posted to other CLEP centres.
Students posted to NYJC but did not apply for CLEP during JAE may still appeal to join the programme if they wish, subject to MOE's approval.
While it is not compulsory to join a CCA at NYJC, it will be good for students to do so. Joining a CCA contributes to a well-rounded and balanced JC experience. It can provide students with opportunities to pursue their non-academic interests and expand their social circles. CCAs are important platforms to develop 21st century competencies and social-emotional skills. It also contributes to a well-rounded portfolio for university admission and scholarship application.
NYJC offers many CCAs for students to choose from. For students interested to explore projects or interests beyond the list of CCAs that the college offers, they can form their own Student Interest Group or start their own Student Initiated Project at NYJC.

For most students on most days, school starts at 0830 with morning assembly and announcements, with lessons beginning at 0900. This later start time is to allow our students and staff more sleep time as we believe this will enhance their overall well-being.
At NYJC, we have 4 dress-down days a week where students can wear any school-approved school-related t-shirts with their school pants (for boys) and skirts (for girls). Such a measure seeks to improve overall well-being as students can be more comfortable in our humid climate.
Yes. NYJC believes in nurturing a wide spectrum of strengths and talents in our students and is committed to providing opportunities for our students to take ownership of their growth and achieve their individual potential.
Launched in 2021, the Nanyang Junior College Zhong Zheng Ren (NYJC-ZZR) Scholarship aims to encourage students to pursue their talents and passion and commitment in contributing to public good or the community. Every year, the scholarship would recognise up to 10 JC1 students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in aesthetics, sports, community and/or leadership, or have shown great resilience. Each scholarship has a cash award of $1,000. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to initiate projects for the college or the community. JC1 students joining us in 2026 can apply for the scholarship.
For JC2 students who demonstrate good character, leadership and outstanding contribution through service to the college and community., the college gives out the NYJC Jin Hui Award. This award recognises student-initiated projects or programmes in wide-ranging domains including Arts, Environment, Community Service, Governance & Society, Science & Technology, and Sports & Well-being.
Besides the NYJC-ZZR Scholarship and NYJC Jin Hui Award, the college management committee also recognises students who have performed excellently and contributed significantly in their respective CCAs with the NYJC SMC Sports Excellence Awards and NYJC SMC CCA Excellence Awards.

There are many avenues for NYJCians to develop their leadership skills. They can take on leadership roles at the Class level (Class Leaders), at the CCA level or at the College level (Student Council or CLExco). Our Leadership Training Camps and Leadership & Life Skills Seminars are programmes to hone their leadership skills.
Every year in July, NYJCians who have exhibited outstanding character, academic achievement and leadership potential, are invited into one of the most prestigious programmes in the college - NYJC Galileo. A top-student development programme, NYJC Galileo aspires to help students develop values and skills and become active global citizens who are keen to contribute to society as they learn to stretch their potential in life. To achieve this aim, NYJC Galileo partners with different Co-Curricular Activities, college committees and external organisations, to organise and coordinate a range of workshops and activities throughout the year to cater to the needs of different students.
EDspirience is an NYJC Work Attachment Programme which allows students to explore and discover their career aspirations through work experience. Many established organisations such as the Singapore Academy of Law and various public hospitals have partnered the college in this endeavour. Through the work attachment programme, our students learn valuable work ethics and pick up important transferable skills from their workplace supervisors and colleagues.
Apart from EDspirience, our Career Guiance Committee also organizes the following:
EDspiration - an annual event where speakers from various institutes of higher learning and industries are invited to share about their university courses and professions with the JC2 students;
EDubuzz - a series of lunch time talks where representatives from local and overseas institutions are invited to share about higher education programmes and prepare students on application procedures to their desired tertiary institutions. Professionals from various industries are also invited to share about what they do to pique the interests of our students
EDventure - students are encouraged to take part in learning journeys and workshops conducted by institutes of higher learning and organisations.
EDmissions - This programme focusses on supporting students' applications to both local and overseas universities. A key feature of EDmissions is the appointment of Teacher Admissions Coordinators who are responsible for specific regions. Apart from local universities, the Teacher Admissions Coordinators will be able to advise on the application requirements for study destinations such as the United Kingdom, United States, China, Australia and beyond.
NYJCians also have access to NYJC ECG Portal. This one-stop portal is designed for NYJC students to further explore their career options, local and overseas higher education options, scholarship options and find work attachment and other ECG learning opportunities.
