NYIT MSPA is dedicated to building a strong LGBTQIA community on campus and hopes to engage with any and all members of NYITCOM, including our cis/het students and faculty at all levels of alliship. Our events mainly center on LGBTQIA education, advocacy, and community building. The educational events we hold aim to discuss the often under-addressed health issues facing the queer and trans communities, such as gender-affirming care, pronoun competency training, U=U and HIV/AIDS education, and more. Our advocacy on campus includes harm reduction workshops, community discussions regarding how to handle micro-aggressions, and guest speakers discussing how to address power dynamics and biases in the medical field. And, of course, we love to have fun together and build community with our annual coming out day story slam, movie nights, and more!
Mission Statement: The Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA) is an is a not-for-profit activist and social organization committed to empowering sexual and gender minority medical students and allies, increasing the number of physicians trained in LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare, and addressing the unique needs of queer communities through research, advocacy, education, and service.
