The Be The Match Registry® is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. For patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant may be their best or only hope for a cure. Yet 70% of patients who need a transplant do not have a fully matched donor in their family. They depend on Be The Match® and its supporters to find a match to save their life.
Be The Match NYITCOM aims to increase awareness about joining the bone marrow donation registry, and to provide opportunities for students to join the registry through a simple cheek swab. Some of our events include a guest speaker series with stem cell donors, and a blood drive in partnership with the New York Blood Center.
