AWS

To spread awareness and promote discussion about the challenges faced by women in the surgical field today - pay equity, ergonomics, family leave, healthcare reform, changes in academic medicine, resident education and work-life balance. Our aim is to empower and encourage women wanting to pursue a career in surgery by offering a supportive network for the realization of personal and professional goals. 

AWS was created to empower women interested in pursuing a career in the surgical field and to help build a network of like-minded female students to support each other in their surgical careers from medical school and beyond. We host hands-on events like suture workshops and ICC workshops for students to practice various surgical skills, donation drives and fundraisers for women's health and wellness, as well as "A day in the life" talks with female surgeons in various surgical subspecialties. We hope to grow our organization presence and become a valuable mentorship resource for all our members.
