The purpose of this organization is to share the importance of lifestyle medicine to the NYIT COM community. Lifestyle medicine is a rising speciality that focuses on lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to prevent and treat chronic illnesses. The six evidence-based therapeutic approaches are focusing on eating whole plant based food, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection. As an osteopathic school we are taught the importance of preventive medicine and promoting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. With our training being primarily medicine based, this group will allow the NYIT community to learn what it truly means to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle and how to adequately counsel our future patients. With events such as cooking a well balanced meal, hosting exercise sessions, and learning various stress reduction techniques, we will become stronger physicians who are able and ready to make a difference in the future of healthcare.
