What OT programs are offered at New York Tech?

New York Tech currently offers BOTH entry level MSOT and OTD programs.  All programs begin in the summer semester, which start in late May.  Each cohort can be up to 40 students.

Please visit our websites for more information on the NY Tech OT programs:

OTD at Occupational Therapy, OTD | Degrees | New York Tech (nyit.edu)

Can I apply to both programs if I am not sure which one I prefer yet?

Yes!  Program selection occurs after admission is offered. You can select whichever program you wish to apply to for admissions and change your selection following the interview process once you hear the differences and we meet you.

Where can I learn about information sessions and open houses?

We currently hold Virtual Graduate Information sessions, monthly each semester.

To check for dates and register for a session, go to: Events | New York Tech (nyit.edu).  Or contact us anytime you want to come in person to visit at otprogram@nyit.edu!

When do you admit students?

We work on a rolling admissions basis and begin to accept students as early as September, so, submit your applications early!

Do I need volunteer hours to apply?

Yes.  We currently require a minimum of 100 volunteer/paid observation hours under the direct supervision of an occupational therapist. These hours can be in process during application phase. There are many sites who allow prospective students to volunteer/work in their settings to learn about OT. At this time, we are still operating under our COVID requirement of 50 minimum hours.

I attended undergraduate classes during COVID and had to take classes online.  Do online classes taken during the pandemic count towards prerequisites for the OT programs at New York Tech?

Yes!  We understand that many had no face-to-face options during the pandemic.

Which New York Tech campuses offer the OT programs?

New York Tech’s OT programs are located on our Long Island campus in beautiful Old Westbury.  Our gorgeous, scenic campus is a short hop from LIRR, and has ample free campus parking.

Does New York Tech offer financial aid or scholarships for graduate students?

Yes!  New York Tech provides a Graduate Scholarship Award of up to $3000 based on specific criteria.

For more information please go to Graduate Scholarships and Financial Aid | Admissions | New York Tech (nyit.edu)

Does New York Tech offer graduate housing?

New York Tech does not offer on campus housing but there are resources to help select, find, and secure housing that best meets your needs.

When does the New York Tech OT Admissions cycle open?

Applications for either program must be submitted through OTCASThe OTCAS portal opens on July 2, 2023, for a May 2024 start date at New York Tech.  There you will find information on deadlines, how to submit an application, and prerequisite course requirements.

OTCAS can take up to 1-2 weeks during the busy time (late September-December) to verify the contents of your application before sending it on to us. Therefore, even if you submitted your application to OTCAS by the deadline of mid-October, we may not receive it until the first or second week in November.

My undergraduate degree is 10-year-old (or older!)  Will my courses still count towards prerequisites for the OT programs?

Yes, they can count towards pre-requisites.  We take into consideration your trajectory of life, school and work in reviewing your application. Contact us at otprogram@nyit.edu to review your individual needs!
