Students will have opportunities to learn from experts in external organisations and institutes of higher learning. At the lower secondary level, they can further their learning through the Nanyang Enrich Science programme. At the upper secondary level, students are given various platforms to sharpen their inquiry skills and challenge themselves by taking up Advanced Science courses. Through these courses, they learn to read scientific journals and carry out independent learning tasks. Students are also encouraged to participate in various science competitions and mentorship programmes to broaden their exposure. Additionally, they may deepen their research skills through short-term attachment to research institutions such as DSTA and DSO.
The Science Talent Development framework works alongside the curriculum to infuse passion for the learning of Science in our students and to develop them according to their interests and aptitudes. Its aim is to nurture a strong passion for research in Science and Technology. Under this framework, a range of research programmes which include the Young Defence Scientist Programme, Science Mentorship Programme, Nanyang Research Programme and Innovation Programme is offered to identified students. In addition, lessons on research methodology are conducted for all students undertaking research projects.
The NYGH Science and Mathematics Talent Programme (SMTP) was introduced to provide students with outstanding talents in Science and Mathematics with an enriched curriculum in terms of breadth and depth of coverage. This two-year programme spans Sec 3 to Sec 4, and is jointly helmed by both the Mathematics and Science departments.
Students in this programme are strongly encouraged to continue with SMTP offered by HCI.
