Malay (Special Programme)

Malay (Special Programme) is a 4-year academic course offered in NYGH to develop students’ understanding of the basic language literacy and relevant aspects of sociolinguistic within the language.

In addition, a variety of approaches and strategies are used to develop students’ 21st Century competencies and confidence in the Malay language.

The following are the objectives of M(SP): 

1. Develop the competency to communicate using the Malay Language and be better able to interact with native speakers.

2. Enhances future learning experiences and job opportunities. 

3. Gain a deeper understanding of the social-cultural aspect of the Malay community in Singapore and this region.  

Students can look forward to wide-ranging language and cultural immersion for instance hands-on cultural workshops such as angklung playing and malay handicrafts such as introduction to basket weaving. Our learning journeys and overseas trips will provide students with authentic learning experience and enhance the interaction with native speakers of the language. Students with the aptitude for the language can also look forward to participating in Malay Language competitions. We welcome any students who are interested, have a passion to learn a new language and keen to understand more about the Malay culture and heritage!
