Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be at the heart of a powerful symphony? Since its formation in 1995, the Nanyang String Ensemble (NYSE) has been where musical journeys truly begin, welcoming everyone from seasoned musicians to complete beginners looking to pick up a new instrument.
With a vibrant family of over 60 members playing the violin, viola, cello, double bass, and even the harp, NYSE is more than just a CCA—it’s a community of passionate storytellers.
Diverse Performance Stages: Beyond the concert hall, we take our music to the world. From high-energy outdoor performances and school lunchtime concerts to meaningful community outreach at homes for the disabled, you will learn to connect with every type of audience.
Collaborative Exchanges: While our music is rooted in school, our reach is wide. We regularly engage in musical exchanges with other schools and CCAs, allowing you to learn new techniques and build friendships across the arts community.
From Mozart to Movie Themes: Our repertoire is never boring. You’ll master everything from timeless classical masterpieces to pop hits and iconic film soundtracks.
World-Class Leadership: Grow under the baton of Mr. Lim Soon Lee, former Music Director of the NUS Symphony Orchestra, former associate principal viola of Singapore Symphony Orchestra. His decades of expertise in the National Arts Council and the local music scene offer our members unparalleled mentorship.
We believe everyone has a song to play. If you are picking up an instrument for the first time, you will join our Training Ensemble (TE). Spend your first year building a solid foundation and gaining confidence before graduating into the Main Ensemble (ME).
For those looking to push their boundaries, our Talent Development program offers:
Chamber Music: Lead small-group discussions on performance techniques and musical interpretation.
Arts Advocacy: Take the reins in planning meaningful performances that bring the arts to the wider public.
